Chris Connelly (musician)
Chris Connelly (born 11 November 1964) is a Scottish musician and author who became famous for his industrial music work of the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly his involvement with the Revolting Cocks and Ministry. He has since established himself as an alternative singer-songwriter, and continues to release solo albums, as well as perform on collaborations. Early years Connelly was born in Bruntsfield, Scotland to Michael and Sadie (née King) Connelly near the city centre of Edinburgh. Connelly's father died in a swimming accident early in his life, causing Chris to focus on artistic interests outside the home to help fill the void. Connelly's Scottish ancestry includes Irish descent through the Connellys and Murphys, who originally came from Ireland to Scotland. Die Warzau (originally Die Warzau Synfony) was an American industrial music band formed in 1987 by Jim Marcus and Van Christie. History In the late 80s, Jim Marcus and Van Christie were working individually as performance artists. Christie had also been playing music with a band but found that he wanted to work with another musician that was into performance art, which led to collaboration with Marcus. The duo originally took the name "Die Warzau Synfony" as a reference to an orchestra composed of dissidents and Jews that played in Warsaw, Poland early in World War Two until, as the band put it, they were "censored to death." The Damage Manual was an industrial music, industrial supergroup (bands), supergroup formed in 2000. It featured Martin Atkins on drums and loops, Chris Connelly (musician), Chris Connelly on vocals, Geordie Walker on guitar and Jah Wobble on bass. A second lineup saw Steven Seibold of the band Hate Dept. replacing both Walker and Wobble after their departure. History Originally stemming from discussions between Atkins and Wobble, Walker was brought aboard when Wobble expressed interest in working with him. After writing and arranging material through exchanging recordings from their own respective studios, the trio had put together a batch of instrumental ideas in need of a vocalist. Catherine (alternative Rock Band)
Catherine was an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois, United States, that was active from 1985 to 1998. They were signed to TVT Records. Breakup In 1997, Catherine toured the US and Europe, opening for bands like Garbage (band), Garbage and the Lemonheads in the US, and played several large festivals in Europe, including Reading Festival, Reading (UK), Bizarre Festival, Bizarre (Cologne), and Rocknacht (Leuven). After their 1997 tour, the band began recording a new LP in the studio they built in a remodeled barn outside Watervliet, Michigan. Meanwhile, TVT Records would not return the band's phone calls. Opting out of their contract, Catherine was unable to secure a contract with another label. The Bells (band)
The Bells, a.k.a. The Five Bells, were a Canadian soft rock band from Montreal, Quebec, active from 1964 to 1974. They released four albums and several singles, two of which were major hits in the early 70s, "Fly Little White Dove Fly" and especially " Stay Awhile". History The band formed in 1964 in Montreal as The Five Bells. Members were South African-born sisters Anne and Jackie Ralph as well as Cliff Edwards, Doug Gravelle and Gordon McLeod. Front 242 is a Belgian electronic music group that came into prominence during the 1980s. Pioneering the style they called electronic body music, they are a profound influence on the electronic and industrial music genres. History Formation Front 242 were formed in 1981 in Aarschot, near Leuven, Belgium, by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen, who wanted to create music and graphic design using emerging electronic tools. Prior to forming Front 242, Bressanutti worked on a music project called Prothese that had already produced several one-off tracks. DJ? Acucrack is an electronic music duo based in Chicago, Illinois. DJ? Acucrack was formed by Jason Novak and Jamie Duffy as an Acumen Nation drum n' bass side project. The duo initially created the side project to "kill time" between releases for Acumen Nation, but their releases as Acucrack were so well received that the side project ended up taking precedence. Their first two releases — ''Nation State'' and '' Mutants of Sound'' — appeared on the CMJ RPM year end charts for 1998. Their 2000 album, ''Sorted'', peaked at #2 on the CMJ RPM Charts in the U.S. In 2004, DJ? Acucrack opened for KMFDM on their 20th Anniversary Tour. In August 2005, DJ? Acid Horse
Acid Horse was a one-off collaborative side project between two industrial music pioneers, Ministry and Cabaret Voltaire. Only one single, "No Name, No Slogan", was released in 1989 on Wax Trax! Records. The band name is a combination of the slang terms for LSD (acid) and heroin (horse), as well as a play on the title of the then-popular acid house movement. As with many other Ministry side projects, such as PTP and the Revolting Cocks, the band member's identities are masked by pseudonyms. PTP (band)
The industrial band PTP (Programming the PsychoDrill) was a short-lived side project of Wax Trax! Records finest talent . The first PTP track, "Show Me Your Spine," was recorded in 1986. Written by Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker of Ministry and Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, it marked the first collaboration between the three. The track appeared briefly during the club scene in the first ''RoboCop'' movie (1987) but did not appear on the soundtrack. The song was not commercially released until 2004 when it appeared on Ministry's ''Side Trax'' compilation. Musically, it is representative of the early Wax Trax sound, featuring arpeggio melodies, loud drums, sampled orchestral hits and Ogre's heavily distorted vocals. PTP released the "Rubber Glove Seduction" single in 1989 on Wax Trax. It was reissued in 1993 on TVT. The b-side was a song titled "My Favorite Things." Alain David Jourgensen (born Alejandro Ramírez Casas; October 9, 1958) is a Cuban-American singer, musician and music producer. Closely related with the independent record label Wax Trax! Records, his musical career spans four decades. He is best known as the frontman and lyricist of the industrial metal band Ministry, which he founded in 1981 and of which he remains the only constant member. He was the primary musician of several Ministry-related projects, such as Revolting Cocks, Lard, and Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters. He (Jourgensen) is regarded as one of the most prominent figures of industrial music, influencing numerous other groups and musicians, both in alternative and industrial-associated acts.
