Chris Cate is an American elected official in San Diego, California. He served as a member of the San Diego City Council representing City Council District 6 from 2014 to 2022. He is a Republican; although city council positions are officially nonpartisan per California state law. Early life and career Cate is the son of a California Highway Patrol officer originally from Kawit, Cavite, Philippines. His mother worked for the United States Postal Service. His parents divorced when he was a child; Cate described both parents as "very apolitical". According to the Southern California Community Press, Cate's family is of Spanish/Filipino heritage. Palomar College is a public community college in San Diego County, California. The main campus is in San Marcos and three centers and four education sites are located elsewhere throughout north San Diego County. San Diego Chargers Stadium Proposals
There were several proposals to build a new stadium for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL), replacing San Diego Stadium as the franchise's home venue. The team and city both attempted to bring business partners in on a proposed $800 million project, which was supposed to be located in the parking lot of the current stadium and include upgrades to the area and infrastructure, but all efforts failed. In August 2016, it was announced that the Citizens’ Initiative for the Chargers' stadium was officially named Ballot Measure C. The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Chargers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) West division, and play their home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which they share with the Los Angeles Rams. Tom Hom
Thomas E. Hom (born February 15, 1927) is an American politician in the state of California. In 1963 he became the first non-caucasian elected to the San Diego City Council. He served in the California State Assembly from 1968 to 1970. Hom represented the 79th Assembly District; he was the second Asian American elected to the California State Legislature. Background and early life Hom's father came to the United States, when he was only 15 years old with little cash aboard the ''Manchuria'' in 1909, changing his name to David due to influence from Presbyterian missionaries in China. Kearny Mesa is a community in the central part of San Diego, California. It is bounded by State Route 52 to the north, Interstate 805 to the west, Aero Drive to the south, and Interstate 15 to the east. Adjacent communities include Serra Mesa, Clairemont and Tierrasanta. Clairemont (or Clairemont Mesa) is a community within the city of San Diego, California, United States. It has a population of about 81,600 residents and an area of roughly . Municipal elections were held in San Diego in 2014 for city council and propositions. The primary election was held on June 3, 2014, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four of the nine seats of the San Diego City Council were contested. Two city council incumbents ran for re-election in their same district and one ran for election in a new district due to redistricting. Municipal elections in California are officially non-partisan, although most members do identify a party preference.
