Buck Choquette
Alexander "Buck" Choquette (1830–1898) was a French-Canadian prospector and adventurer who was the discoverer in 1861 of the gold strike which led to the Stikine Gold Rush. Early life He was born Taddée Choquette in St. Benoit de Mirabel (Deux-Montagnes) in a farming family. His parents were Julien Choquette and Magdeleine Rastoul. His father was a farmer and also a lieutenant in the loyal militia of St. Eustache who took part in the Battle of St. Eustache against the Patriotes (December 1837). His two cousins, Damien Masson and Luc-Hyacinthe Masson, were well known Patriotes. His uncle Basile Choquette was also a captain in the loyal militia of St. Eustache, directed by Maximilien Globensky. Choquette left home on foot in 1849 at the age of 19 and set out first for work in Montreal, then traveled via Duluth, Minnesota, to Independence, Missouri, where he joined one of the many wagon trains bound for the California Gold Rush. Auguste Choquette
Auguste Choquette (born 29 August 1932) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a lawyer by career. He was first elected at the Lotbinière riding in the 1963 general election after an unsuccessful attempt there in 1962. Choquette was re-elected in 1965, but with riding changes was defeated at Bellechasse riding in the 1968 federal election by Adrien Lambert of the Ralliement créditiste. Fernand Choquette
Fernand Choquette, (October 27, 1895 – January 17, 1975) was a Canadian Quebec MNA and judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal from 1956 until 1970. He also worked as a lawyer for over 10 years and a teacher for over 20 years. Born in Montmagny, Quebec, the son of Philippe-Auguste Choquette and Marie Bender, he received a B.A. in 1915 and an LL.B in 1918 from Université Laval. He married Marguerite Vallerand in 1922. Defeated in the 1935 and 1936 provincial elections, Choquette served two terms as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party from 1939 to 1948 for the riding of Montmagny (now part of Montmagny-L'Islet). Early life He was born on October 3, 1884 near Granby, Estrie and became a farmer. John "Jack" Choquette (December 28, 1928 – February 23, 2013) was an American stock car and modified stock car racing driver. He was the winner of the 1954 NASCAR Modified Division championship and was the grandfather of ASA Midwest Tour driver Jeff Choquette. Career Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Choquette made his name in racing in southern Florida, having moved from New Jersey to make his home in Lake Worth. He was a regular competitor at Palm Beach Speedway and Medley Speedway during the 1950s, in addition to competing at other Florida tracks. Competing in NASCAR's Modified division, he won the series' 1953 Southeastern regional championship, and in 1954 was awarded the national NASCAR Modified championship, beating Tommy Elliott, Banjo Matthews and Cotton Owens for the title. Jérôme Choquette (; January 25, 1928 – September 1, 2017) was a lawyer and politician in Quebec, Canada. Choquette ran a private law practice, representing various claimants in a wide range of cases from his office on ''Avenue du Parc'', downtown Montreal. Early life Choquette was born in Montreal, Quebec, and studied at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Academy and Collège Stanislas in Montreal, a Roman Catholic private school considered an elite institution in Quebec. He graduated from McGill University with a law degree in 1949, and was called to the Bar of Quebec in the same year. In 1951, he obtained a doctorate in economics from the Paris Law School in Paris, France. He also studied at the School of Business Administration at Columbia University in New York City. Michel Choquette (born March 14, 1938) is a Canadian humorist who has written for print, for television and for film, and a comedian who has performed for television. Life and career Choquette was born March 14, 1938, in Montreal, Quebec to a French Canadian family. He attended Selwyn House School and did his undergraduate studies at Sir George Williams University. Afterwards, he studied for a master's degree in archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, but did not graduate. In 1959 he created a record called "Songs of Murray Bay", which made fun of a summer resort town on the St. Lawrence which was widely popular locally. Because of this song, Choquette, at age 22, caught the interest of Cambridge-based musical satirist Tom Lehrer. Natalie Choquette (born 1959) is a French Canadian soprano. Life Choquette was born in Tokyo. She grew up in Lima, Peru, Boston, Rome, Montreal, and Moscow. Philippe-Auguste Choquette
Philippe-Auguste Choquette (January 6, 1854 – December 20, 1948) was a Canadian Member of Parliament and Senator. Biography He was born on January 6, 1854, in Beloeil, Canada East to Joseph Choquette and Thaïs Audet. He studied at Université Laval and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1880 and to the King's Council in 1890. After running unsuccessfully in the 1882 election, he was elected as a Liberal in the riding of Montmagny in the 1887 election. He was re-elected in 1891 and 1896. From 1898 until 1904, he was a Judge in the Quebec Superior Court, Arthabaska District. In 1904, he was appointed to the Senate representing the Senatorial division of Grandville, Quebec. He resigned in 1919. He also served as President of Quebec Bulldogs hockey club for several years, winning the Stanley Cup in 1912, and 1913. He died on December 20, 1948.
