Louis-Ulysse Chopard
Louis-Ulysse Chopard (4 May 1836 – 30 January 1915) was a Swiss watchmaker and entrepreneur who was the founder of the luxury manufacturing and retail corporation Chopard. Biography Louis-Ulysse Chopard was the second son of Félicien Chopard and his wife Henriette, who had four children. Félicien was an experienced framer and a man of tradition who encouraged his sons to learn the watchmaking trade. As a young man, Louis-Ulysse Chopard quickly grasped the fact that it was the comptoirs or watch dealerships that earned the greatest profit from the work of the framers. Each spring, the agents picked up the movements, fitted the dials and hands, cased up the finished movements and they marketed the finished watches. It was therefore better to work independently and Louis-Ulysse wanted his own brand. He created his L.U.C manufacturing company in Sonvilier, Switzerland at the age of 24, in 1860. No watches were mass-produced but his clever blend of artistry and functionality soon ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Poinçon De Genève
The Geneva Seal (English), Poinçon de Genève (French), or Genfer Siegel (German) is the official seal of the City and Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. When a variation of the official seal is applied to wristwatch Watch movement, movements, the Geneva Seal is the quality seal of the Watchmaking School of Geneva and it has an official purpose as defined by the law. The term is often mistakenly translated from the French as the "Geneva hallmark", as the word means "punch" and is the word used for hallmark. However, a hallmark is an official mark attesting to the fineness of a precious metal object. In this context the German translation of hallmark, which is "stempel" or "stamp" may be helpful to foster an understanding of and distinguish the terms. The motif of the Geneva Seal is the Seal (device), seal of the Geneva, Canton of Geneva. This becomes evident when one translates its name from the German.
