Choice City Rebels
The Choice City Rebels was a roller derby league based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Founded in 2009, the league last fielded a single team which competed against teams from other leagues. The league was founded in October 2009 by ten established skaters, who had previously played for FoCo Girls Gone Derby, and it held its first bout in December, against the Slaughterhouse Derby Girls. In 2011, it reached the final of the roller derby tournament at the Greeley Stampede, where it again faced the Slaughterhouse team. Roller Derby
Roller derby is a roller skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. Game play consists of a series of short scrimmages (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who uniquely wears a star on the helmet) and four blockers to skate counter-clockwise around a track. The jammer scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. FoCo Roller Derby, formerly FoCo Girls Gone Derby, is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Founded in 2006, the league currently consists of two teams, and two mixed teams which compete against teams from other leagues. FoCo is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Teams The league's two home teams have evolved over the years. Originally the Chanel Cartel and the Death Row Dolls, which later became the Cinder Hellas and Psycho Sirens in 2009, and finally the Ale Marys and The Growlers in 2019. The Greeley Stampede, also known as the Greeley Independence Stampede, is an annual celebration held in Greeley, Colorado. It spans two weekends in July and features Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA)-sanctioned rodeo, bull riding and kids' rodeos, country and classic rock concerts, demolition derby, a televised 4th of July parade, Carnival Midway, Western Art Show, free stage entertainment, and loads of festival grounds activities, mixed with food and fun. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice is the program affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In operation from 2009 until early 2019, the Apprentice Program served to onboard new member leagues into the WFTDA. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association's (WFTDA) West Region was formed in 2006. In 2009, teams from the eastern part of the region were moved into the North Central and South Central Regions. From 2008, the WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West.
