Chloe Esposito
Chloe Esposito (born 19 September 1991) is an Australian shooter and modern pentathlon competitor. She competed at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in the 10 m air pistol. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, London, in the modern pentathlon and won the gold medal in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro. Personal life Esposito was born on 19 September 1991 in Camden, New South Wales. She is from and lives in the Sydney area. She attended St Francis Xavier (NSW, Australia) before going to Mount Saint Joseph for high school. She competed at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in the 10 m air pistol. During June 2012, she visited Palmerston District Primary School where she discussed the five sports of the modern pentathlon, swimming, running, shooting, fencing and horse riding, with students. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. Before the establishment of the order, Australian citizens received British honours. Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) was opened in 1981. AIS Sports Star of the Year (later named AIS Athlete of the Year) was first established in 1983/84 with the first winner being swimmer Karen Phillips. Modern pentathlon is a sport contested at the Summer Olympic Games. History Development as an Olympic sport Modern pentathlon was created by the founder of the modern Games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, and was first contested in 1912. Coubertin was inspired by the pentathlon event in Ancient Olympic Games, which was modeled after the skills of the ideal soldier at the time. Modern pentathlon was also influenced by the tradition of civilian and military multi-sport events in Sweden at the beginning of the 20th century. It combined events that were considered to be of upper-class origin like épée fencing, pistol shooting and riding with more popular ones like running and swimming.
