Chișinău Central Cemetery
The Chișinău Central Cemetery ( ro, Cimitirul Central din Chișinău) is a cemetery located in the Sectorul Centru of Chișinău, Moldova, in the "triangle" of Alexei Mateevici, Vasile Alecsandri and Pantelimon Halippa. Founded in 1811, it is the resting place of many prominent personalities in the history and culture of Moldova. Moldova ( , ; ), officially the Republic of Moldova ( ro, Republica Moldova), is a Landlocked country, landlocked country in Eastern Europe. Grigore Vieru (; 14 February 1935, Pererîta, Hotin County, Kingdom of Romania – 18 January 2009, Chișinău, Moldova, Republic of Moldova) was a Moldovans, Moldavian poet, writer and unification of Moldova and Romania, unionist advocate. Known for his poems and books for children. His poetry is characterized by vivid natural scenery, patriotism, as well as a venerated image of the sacred mother. Vieru wrote in the Romanian language. In 1993 he was elected a correspondent member of the Romanian Academy. Mircea Snegur (; born 17 January 1940) is a Moldovan politician who was served as first President of Moldova from 1990–1997. Before that, he served as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet 1989–1990 (head of state) and Chairman of the Supreme Soviet from 27 April to 3 September 1990. Early life and education Snegur was born in Trifănești, in Soroca District to Ivan and Anna Snegur. Anton Gămurari
Anton Gămurari (15 August 1950 – 17 March 2021) was a Moldovan general. Biography Anton Gămurari was born in Chișinău, into a large family with nine children. His parents were workers at the Institute of Pomiculture in Chișinău. After graduating from high school in Chișinău, he decided to work as a driver at a factory to help support his large family. During this time, his father passed away. Shortly after his father's death, Anton Gămurari decided to enlist in the Soviet Army. He has said that his time in the Army was a true "school of maturity." Nicolae Dabija (politician)
Nicolae Dabija (15 July 1948 – 12 March 2021) was a writer, literary historian, and politician from the Republic of Moldova, honorary member of the Romanian Academy (from 2003,) and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (from 2012). Biography Dabija was born on 15 July 1948 in Codreni village, Cimișlia, at the time in the Moldavian SSR of the Soviet Union. Of Romanian nationality and Orthodox religion, he was the nephew of the archimandrite Serafim Dabija, a Romanian confessor deported to a Gulag camp in 1947. In 1966 he enrolled at the journalism faculty of the State University of Moldova. In the third year he was expelled for "pro-Romanian and anti-Soviet activity"; re-admitted in 1970 in the Faculty of Philology, he graduated from the university in 1972. Ion Ciubuc (; 29 May 1943 – 29 January 2018) was an economist and a Moldovan politician who served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Moldova from January 1997 to February 1999. Leonida Lari
Leonida Lari (26 October 1949 – 11 December 2011) was a Moldovan poet, journalist, and politician who advocated for the reunion of Bessarabia with Romania. She published 24 volumes of poetry and prose and was a prolific translator of key works from world literature into Romanian. Life and career Leonida Lari was born on October 26, 1949 in Bursuceni, Moldovan SSR, one of the former Soviet Socialist Republics of the Soviet Union. Antonina Lucinschi (13 September 1939 – 16 September 2005) was a Moldovan schoolteacher who was the wife of Petru Lucinschi, the 2nd President of Moldova.
