Nagercoil Junction railway station (station code: NCJ) is a railway junction in Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu. Background Trivandrum–Nagercoil–Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli–Nagercoil construction projects were inaugurated by the then Prime minister Mrs.Indira Gandhi on 6 September 1972. The Trivandrum–Nagercoil–Kanniyakumari line was opened on 15 April 1979. Nagercoil Junction became operational on 15 April 1979. Vanchinad Express is an intercity express train running between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam in the state of Kerala, India. It is operated by the Thiruvananthapuram division of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Etymology Vanchinad was one of the names of the old princely state of Travancore, which actually had the shape of a ship.
