''Chira'' is a genus of jumping spiders that was first described by George Peckham & Elizabeth Peckham in 1896. It is currently named after Rio Chira, a river in Peru, but the Peckhams originally called the genus ''Shira'', later emended by Eugène Simon. Bishop Alexander Chira was a bishop of the Ruthenian Catholic Church. His immediate predecessor was Bishop Theodore G. Romzha. He is designated as a Confessor of the Faith. Personal information Chira was born January 17, 1897, in the village of Irhóc, Máramaros County (Vilhivci/Vilʹkhivtsi/Olkhovtsy). His death was in exile on May 26, 1983 in the city of Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Chira "was one of the many victims of the Soviet persecution of the Greek Catholic Church." While in a concentration camp in 1956, Chira clandestinely was appointed a bishop. Life and work Siam Chemicals After obtaining a master's degree in Automotive Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Chira Ratanarat became the chief executive officer of The Siam Chemicals Public Company (SCC). The company had been founded by his father for the manufacture of basic chemicals for Thai downstream industries, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, various bases and salts. Chira Ratanarat modernised the business which now blends and trades various chemicals, fertilisers and lubricants. The company is now one of Thailand's largest lube makers. Susan Deborah Chira (born May 18, 1958, in Manhattan) is an American journalist. She is the editor-in-chief of The Marshall Project. Previously, Chira was a senior correspondent and editor covering gender for ''The New York Times''. From September 2014 until September 2016, she was a deputy executive editor of the newspaper and oversaw its news report. She was previously the assistant managing editor for news, and was the ''Times'''s foreign news editor from 2004 to 2011. She was raised in Rye, New York, and attended Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Massachusetts, where she graduated in 1976. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1980, graduating summa cum laude. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. The Catacaoan languages are an extinct family of three languages spoken in the Piura Region of Peru. The three languages in the family are: * Catacao or Katakao, once spoken around the city of Catacaos * Colán or Kolán, once spoken between the Piura River and Chira River *Chira or Lachira or Tangarará, once spoken along the Chira River. Chira River or Rio Chira is the name of a river (as well as valley) in northern Peru whose mouth is 100 km north west of the provincial capital of Piura and 25 km north of the port of Paita. Its source is in the Ecuadorian Andes near the town of Papaca in the province Loja (province), Loja from where it flows for ca 250 km in westerly directions. After crossing the border to Peru, it is dammed up in the 885 million m³ Poechos reservoir and later passes the town of Sullana. Chira Island is a Costa Rican Pacific island located at the upper end of the Gulf of Nicoya it is also as Chira a district of the Puntarenas canton, in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. History Chira district was created on 28 September 1998 by Decreto Ejecutivo 27396-G. Geography Chira has an area of km² and an elevation of metres. It possesses an extensive inlet of seawater that is the result of a geological fault that has caused the land to submerge, leaving exposed only the tops of what were formerly low hills. These are the various islands that dot the Gulf, the largest of which being the Island of Chira - Costa Rica's second largest island. The Gulf of Nicoya separates Guanacaste from mainland Costa Rica and is fed by the Tempisque River. Chira Island lies just off San Pablo, Guanacaste.
