Chipps Island
Chipps Island is a small island in Suisun Bay, California. It is part of Solano County. It is also known as Knox Island, Its coordinates are by which name it appears on an 1850 survey map of the San Francisco Bay area made by Cadwalader Ringgold, as well as an 1854 map of the area by Henry Lange. In 1959, the state of California used Chipps Island in a legal definition of the western boundary of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. In 1960s, during efforts to devise large-scale hydrological engineering projects in San Francisco Bay and adjacent estuaries, Chipps Island was proposed as the site of a dam across the Carquinez Strait as a "more feasible" alternative to the very expensive Reber Plan. The Chipps Island dam was estimated to cost $194,400,000 in 1963 , and retain of fresh water (which would otherwise be emptied into the Pacific Ocean). Northern California
Northern California (colloquially known as NorCal) is a geographic and cultural region that generally comprises the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. Bouldin Island
Bouldin Island is an island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, northwest of Stockton on the Stockton Deepwater Shipping Channel. It is in San Joaquin County, and managed by Reclamation District 756. Geography The island is bounded to the north by South Mokelumne River which separates the island from Staten Island. To the east, the island is bounded by Little Potato Slough, to the south by Potato Slough, and to the west by the Mokelumne River. State Route 12 crosses the northern section of Bouldin Island, which is also called Kettleman Lane on the island. A swing bridge over the Mokelumne River on SR 12 connects the northwestern part of the island to Andrus Island. Near the northeastern tip of Bouldin Island, a high-level bridge on SR 12 spans Little Potato Slough connecting the island to Stockton, California. Metropolitan Water District Of Southern California
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a regional wholesaler and the largest supplier of treated water in the United States. The name is usually shortened to "Met," "Metropolitan," or "MWD." It is a cooperative of fourteen cities, eleven municipal water districts, and one county water authority, that provides water to 19 million people in a service area. It was created by an act of the California State Legislature in 1928, primarily to build and operate the Colorado River Aqueduct. Metropolitan became the first (and largest) contractor to the State Water Project in 1960.
