The Niagara RiverHawks are a Junior ice hockey team based in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League . History In 1987, the Chippawa Merchants were granted an OHA Junior C franchise and were based in the Chippawa Willoughby Arena. In 1999, the Chippawa Merchants changed their team name to the RiverHawks. In 2001, the RiverHawks defeated the Belle River Canadiens of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League 4-games-to-1 to win the Clarence Schmalz Cup as Ontario Hockey Association provincial Junior C champions. In 2010, the RiverHawks left the Chippawa Willoughby Arena for the brand new Gale Centre, located in Niagara Falls. As a part of the move the team changed colours from their original red, white and black scheme to teal, gray and white with orange trim. Provincial Junior Hockey League
The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) is a Canadian junior ice hockey league spanning parts of Southern Ontario. The PJHL is the third tier of the Ontario Hockey Association and is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada. The league was formed in 2016 with the merging of eight Junior C leagues. PJHL teams compete for the Clarence Schmalz Cup. The Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League is a former Junior "C" ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association. The Champion of the Niagara competed for the All-Ontario Championship and the Clarence Schmalz Cup. In the summer of 2016, the NDJCHL merged into the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League was formed in 1974. Although corresponding with the founding of the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League, the Niagara District league was actually founded by removing the Niagara-area teams from the Central Junior C Hockey League and placing them in the new Niagara District league. Grimsby Peach Kings
The Grimsby Peach Kings are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team from Grimsby, Ontario and play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History One of the oldest hockey clubs in Ontario, the Peach Kings officially joined the Ontario Hockey Association in 1922, however the "Peach Kings" moniker had been used for local sports teams for several decades prior. The name refers to Grimsby's unique ability to cultivate peaches, a fruit that cannot be farmed without proper conditions. Grimsby's location between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment plus soil types allow for this. In the early 1920s Col. Roberts had built a large cold storage facility for fruit in the summer that had ample capacity to make ice in the winter. In turn, work began on an arena in the summer of 1921. The Dundas Blues are a junior hockey, junior ice hockey team based in Dundas, Ontario, Dundas, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Bloomfield Division (South Conference) of the Provincial Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association. History The team was founded in 1963 as the Dundas Merchants. The Merchants played in the massive Central Junior C Hockey League. In 1966, the league was divided up and the Merchants began playing in the Intercounty Junior C Hockey League. In 1971, the team was promoted to the newly aligned OPJHL, Central Junior B Hockey League. With the new league, the team was re-dubbed the Dundas Blues. The Port Dover Sailors are a junior hockey team based in Port Dover, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association until the 2016-17 season when the league joined the Provincial Junior Hockey League and placed under the Bloomfield Division of the new league. The Glanbrook Rangers are a Junior ice hockey team based in Glanbrook, Ontario, Canada. They are playing in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. The Rangers are only the second Ontario Hockey Association team to have claimed three consecutive Clarence Schmalz Cups as Junior C champions, winning in 1997, 1998, and 1999. The Hagersville Hawks are a Junior ice hockey team from Hagersville, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Provincial Junior Hockey League in the Ontario Hockey Association. History The Hagersville Hawks were founded in 1992. The town was previously represented by the Hagersville Flyers of the Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League. Dunnville is an unincorporated community located near the mouth of the Grand River in Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada near the historic Talbot Trail. It was formerly an incorporated town encompassing the surrounding area with a total population of 12,000. History Dunnville was the site of a Cayuga settlement called ''Detgahnegaha'gó:wah''. Clarence Schmalz Cup
The Clarence Schmalz Cup is the Ontario Hockey Association's Junior "C" ice hockey championship and championship trophy. The champions of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) are awarded the Cup. The PJHL was formed in 2016 from the former 8 provincial leagues that previously competed in a tournament, commonly called the All-Ontario Championships, to determine the winner of the Cup.
