Chipman Parish, New Brunswick
Chipman is a civil parish in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between the village of Chipman and the local service district of the parish of Chipman, both of which were members of Regional Service Commission 11 (RSC11). Origin of name The parish was named for Ward Chipman Jr., Chief Justice of New Brunswick at the time of its erection. History Chipman was erected in 1835 from Brunswick and Canning Parishes. In 1855 all of Chipman southeast of Coal Creek was transferred to Waterborough Parish. In 1896 the boundary with Waterborough was altered, parallelling the Brunswick line from the mouth of North Branch Coal Creek to the county line; the lost territory became part of Waterborough. The Canadian province of New Brunswick is divided by the ''Territorial Division Act'' into 152 parishes, units which had political significance as subdivisions of counties until the Municipalities Act of 1966. Parishes still exist in law and include any municipality, rural community, or regional municipality within their borders. They provided convenient boundaries for electoral districts and organising delivery of government services for some time after 1966 but were gradually supplanted for such purposes by local service districts (LSDs), which better represent communities of interest. Northfield is a civil parish in Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between the village of Minto and the local service district of the parish of Northfield, both of which were members of Regional Service Commission 11 (RSC11). Origin of name William F. Ganong states that the parish was named for its position in the county. For governance purposes it is divided mainly between the village of Doaktown and the Greater Miramichi rural district, with small areas along the eastern and western borders belonging to the incorporated rural communities of Miramichi River Valley and Upper Miramichi, respectively. Grand Lake (New Brunswick)
Grand Lake is a lake located in central New Brunswick, Canada. It is approximately 40 kilometres east of Fredericton; and the province's largest open body of water being a total of 20 kilometers long and 5 kilometres wide. The lake drains through the Jemseg River and the Grand Lake Meadows into the Saint John River. Records indicate that by the early 1600s rand Lakewas inhabited by Maliseet and Mi’kmaq peoples. The traditional word for Grand Lake is "Kchee'quis" meaning Big Lake. Commercial barges of forest products were towed across the lake from a large sawmill in Chipman to a pulp mill in Saint John until the late 1990s. Other commercial activities included New Brunswick's largest coal mining area with extensive strip mines in the Newcastle Creek valley. New Brunswick Route 715
Route 715 is a long local highway in Queens County, New Brunswick. Its western terminus is in Jemseg at Route 695 near its interchange with Route 2 (the Trans-Canada Highway) and its eastern terminus is in Coles Island at Route 10 and Route 112. It is signed as an east–west highway although its westernmost portion along the Saint John River runs nearly due north and south. Route description The route starts at the intersection of Route 10 and Route 112 north of Coles Island, where it travels south along the east bank of the Canaan River. It travels through a mostly forested area past Chambres Corner and Washademoak where it takes a sharp turn west at Pattersons Cove.
