Chingiz Babayev
Chingiz Adil oghlu Babayev (Azerbaijani: Çingiz Adil oğlu Babayev; 2 October 1964, Baku – 28 October 1995, Baku) was a Senior Lieutenant of Jamshid Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum who was posthumously awarded the title of the National Hero of Azerbaijan for saving people's lives during the 1995 Baku Metro fire. Having graduated from school no. 20 in Yasamal Raion, Babayev entered the Azerbaijan Technical University. He subsequently worked in the employment center and during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1992 volunteered for the military, where he became the chief of staff of a military unit. During the 1995 Baku Metro fire Babayev tried to rescue and help the passengers in distress, but lost his life. On 5 November 1996 by the order of the President of Azerbaijan he was posthumously awarded the title of the National Hero of Azerbaijan for the displayed courage and heroism. Baku
Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Yasamal Raion
Yasamal is a settlement and raion in Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 245,900. One of the central districts of Baku, Yasamal district, was established in 1932 as the administrative unit of the district, from the south to Sabail (3 km), west from Garadagh (3.2 km), north from Binagadi (2.8 km) and Nasimi (5 km) borders with regions. The territory of the district is 16.22 km2. National Heroes Of Azerbaijan
The National Hero of Azerbaijan ( az, Azərbaycan milli qəhrəmanı) is the highest national title in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The title was named on 25 March 1992, and the "Qizil Ulduz" Medal awarded as a sign of receiving this title was established by a separate law in 15 July 1992. The law on the title has been in effect since 25 December 1995. It can only be awarded once to the same person. The title is awarded for outstanding services of national importance to Azerbaijan in defence and strengthening of the state system and creation of important national values. The Mirza Fatali Akhundov National Library of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: ''Mirzə Fətəli Axundov adına Azərbaycan Milli Kitabxanası'') is the national library of the Republic of Azerbaijan, located in Baku and founded in 1922. It is named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov, an Azerbaijani dramatist and philosopher. The library is located on Khagani Street and overlooks Rəşid Behbudov Avenue and Nizami Street. Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU; az, Azərbaycan Texniki Universiteti) is a public university, specialized in engineering, located in Baku, Azerbaijan. The University has 9 schools and 54 departments, 884 faculty members and approximately 6500 students. History November 14, 1920, the Soviet government decided that the previous technical school "Baku Polytechnicum" would be closed and replaced by the Baku Polytechnic Institute. 1995 Baku Metro Fire
On 28 October 1995, a fire broke out in the subway system of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, between the stations Ulduz and Nariman Narimanov. According to official figures, the fire killed 289 people: 286 passengers (including 28 children) and three rescue workers, while 270 people were injured. The fire was deemed to have been caused by an electrical malfunction, but the possibility of sabotage was not excluded. Although a number of people who evacuated the train survived, the fire remains the world's deadliest subway disaster. One person, Chingiz Babayev, was posthumously awarded the title of the National Hero of Azerbaijan for saving passengers' lives.
