Chinenye Akinlade
Chinenye Ochuba-Akinlade is a Nigerian beauty pageant titleholder. Ochuba-Akinlade is the seventh of eight children and also a twin. She is an Igbo. Following completion of her secondary education at Regan Memorial Secondary School, she won the 2002 edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant while awaiting admission into university. Despite being a favourite for the Miss Universe 2002 crown, she failed to make the top ten, but fared better at Miss World, where she was a top ten finalist, as well as the African Continental Queen of Beauty. Formerly a student at the University of Lagos, Ochuba-Akinlade completed her degree in Accounting and Financing at the University of Greenwich, London in 2008, graduating with a second class upper. Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Hayat Ahmed Mohammed (born 1982) is an Ethiopian model and beauty pageant titleholder. Her name in Arabic means "life." Hayat Ahmed was Ethiopia's first representative to Miss World pageant. At the time of the competition, she was a third-year student at the Unity University College pursuing a course in Information Management Systems. At Miss World 2003 pageant with 100 contestants, Hayat made the semi-finals and the title "Continental Queen of Beauty - Africa." The pageant took place in China and was seen by 1 billion people. Miss World 2002, the 52nd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 7 December 2002 at the Alexandra Palace in London, United Kingdom. It was initially intended to be staged in Abuja, but due to religious riots in the nearby city of Kaduna (the "Miss World riots") the pageant was relocated to London. A total of 110 contestants from all over the world were initially invited to compete for the crown, but several contestants boycotted the pageant and others dropping out in protest for the death sentence by stoning determined by an Islamic Sharia court to Amina Lawal, a Nigerian woman accused of adultery, making a total of 88 girls competing for the crown. It was the first time that audience participation through text messaging together with the scores of the judges helped in determining the results for the Top 20.
