Chilworth, Hampshire
Chilworth is a village in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England, on the northern edge of Southampton. Good travel connections and restricted development have led to the village becoming particularly affluent. The village was referred to as Celeworda in the Domesday book, and is now in two parts: modern Chilworth lying along the straight 'new' stretch of the Southampton to Romsey road, and old Chilworth built around the 'old' road. Etymology ''Chil'' is an aspirate mutation of the Common Brittonic noun ''cil'' meaning "angle or corner" and having the implication of "boundary". The suffix ''worth'' is the Middle English cognate of the proto-Germanic ''warō'' meaning "those that care for, watch, guard, protect, or defend". The name literally translates as two nouns: "boundary-guards." Chilworth, Surrey
Chilworth is a village in the Guildford borough of Surrey, England. It is located in the Tillingbourne valley, southeast of Guildford. Geography The village is in the Surrey Hills AONB, Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, AONB and most of its land is outside the settlement boundary within the Metropolitan Green Belt. The village occupies both sides of the Tillingbourne between those areas of the Greensand Ridge to the south, such as Tangley Hill, and the steep knoll called St Martha's Hill, with St Martha's Church on the summit, to the north. The North Downs are immediately north, east and west of that knoll. Chilworth Railway Station
Chilworth railway station serves the village of Chilworth, Surrey, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by the Great Western Railway. It is on the North Downs Line, measured from via . History The Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway opened the station in 1849 as "Chilworth and Albury", although the village of Albury is over away. British Railways destaffed the station in November 1967. In 1978, the signal box was closed and the signalling controls were transferred to the two nearest staffed boxes at Shalford and Gomshall. The original Victorian footbridge and road crossing gates from the station were removed, and sold for £1 to the artist David Shepherd. They were transported on BRS low loader trucks to Somerset, for re-use on the East Somerset Railway, Cranmore. The station has two platforms, which can each accommodate a six-coach train.
