Chillicothe Correctional Institution
Chillicothe Correction Institution, or CCI, is a state-run medium security prison on the west bank of the Scioto River just outside Chillicothe, Ohio. It is located adjacent to Ross Correctional Institution and Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. The prison is a former military camp, named for Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman. It later became a federal penitentiary and has housed several high-profile prisoners including Charles Manson in 1952, bootlegger and future NASCAR driver Junior Johnson, and serial killer Anthony Sowell. Country music legend Johnny Paycheck also served a 22-month stint in CCI for shooting a man in a Hillsboro Ohio bar. Scioto Township is one of the sixteen townships of Ross County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 27,735 people in the township, 5,940 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Michael Madison
Michael Madison (born October 15, 1977) is an American convicted serial killer and sex offender from East Cleveland, Ohio who is known to have committed the murders of at least three women over a nine-month period in 2012 and 2013. He was arrested and charged with the crimes in 2013 and was sentenced to death in 2016. Madison is currently being held on death row. Early life Madison was born on October 15, 1977, to Diane Madison and John Baldwin, the product of an accidental pregnancy. Anthony Kirkland
Anthony Kirkland (born September 13, 1968) is an American serial killer. Between 2006 and 2009, Kirkland murdered two women and two girls in the Cincinnati area, following a 16-year prison term for the 1987 killing of his girlfriend. Early life Kirkland experienced physical and mental abuse as a child, his lawyers claim. 1987 killing On May 20, 1987, Kirkland raped and murdered his girlfriend, Leola Douglas, after she refused to have sex with him. He then set her body on fire to conceal evidence of the rape. Kirkland pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison. Shawn Michael Grate (born August 8, 1976) is an American convicted serial killer, rapist, and former drifter who murdered five young women from 2006 to September 2016 in and around northern Ohio. Grate was convicted on two counts of aggravated murder on May 7, 2018, in Ashland County, pleaded guilty to two additional murders on March 1, 2019, in Richland County, and pleaded guilty to an additional murder on September 11, 2019, in Marion County. Quisi Bryan (born October 2, 1970) is an American man convicted of murdering Cleveland police officer Wayne Leon during a traffic stop in 2000. Bryan is on death row in Ohio and is scheduled to be executed on January 7, 2026. Crimes On June 25, 2000, police officer Wayne Leon pulled Bryan over for a traffic violation at a gas station in the Central neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Bryan shot Leon in the face, killing him instantly. Legal proceedings Bryan was found guilty of murdering Leon and was sentenced to death. Anthony And Nathaniel Cook
Anthony Cook (born March 9, 1949) and Nathaniel Cook (born October 25, 1958) are American serial killer brothers who committed a series of at least 9 rapes and murders of mostly couples in Toledo, Ohio, area between 1973 and 1981. Their guilt was established in the late 1990s thanks to DNA profiling, after which both brothers were convicted and sentenced to long terms of imprisonment. Lucasville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,757 at the 2010 census. Lucasville is the location of the Scioto County Fairgrounds. Southern Ohio Correctional Facility
The Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (commonly referred to as Lucasville) is a maximum security prison located just outside Lucasville in Scioto County, Ohio. The prison was constructed in 1972. As of 2022, the warden is Donald Redwood. The prison is perhaps best known for its April 1993 riot, in which a total of 450 prisoners rioted, resulting in an 11-day standoff between rioters and law enforcement. One corrections officer and nine inmates were killed during the riot. The riot has been described as one of the largest crises in Ohio prison history and one of the longest prison sieges in U.S. history.
