Chilik River
The Chilik (russian: Чилик, kk, Шілік ''Shilik'', or Шелек ''Shelek'') is a major flowing river in the Almaty Region in the Republic of Kazakhstan, one of the largest left tributaries of the Ili, and the main waterway of southeastern Kazakhstan. The Bartogay reservoir has been created on the river, from where the Great Almaty canal begins. Location In the valley of the river is the village of Shelek with the same name, the former Administrative centre of the Chilik district of Almaty region (now merged with the Enbekshikazakh District). Also in the valley of the river are the villages of Malybai, Bijanova, Bayseit, Sarybulak, Milyanfan and Masak. Kapchagay Reservoir
Kapchagay Reservoir, also spelled Qapshaghay Bogeni Reservoir and sometimes referred to as Lake Kapchagay, is a major reservoir in Almaty Region in southeastern Kazakhstan, approximately 80 kilometres north of Almaty. The 140 kilometre long lake is formed by a dam on the Ili River which flows from the mountains in the east towards Lake Balkhash to the northwest. It is named after the town of Kapchagay, which is located on its western bank. During the summer months the lake attracts a number of tourists from Almaty, who frequent its beachy shores on the weekends. In some parts of the Kapshagay reservoir, a coastal zone was created, which is now known as Kapshagay lake (* because of its impressive size (length 180 km, width 22 km, depth up to 50 m). Sea Level
Mean sea level (MSL, often shortened to sea level) is an average surface level of one or more among Earth's coastal bodies of water from which heights such as elevation may be measured. Almaty Region
Almaty Region ( kk, Алматы облысы, Almaty oblysy; russian: Алматинская область, Almatinskaya oblast) is a region in Kazakhstan, located in the southeastern part of the country. Bartogay Lake
Bartogai Lake ( kk, Бартоғай бөгені, ''Bartoğai bögenı'') is a reservoir in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan. As it is far away from any pollution sources, it has remained relatively pristine. It was built in the early 1980s on the Chilik River at the base of the Sogety Plateau (Syugaty Hills) as part of an irrigation project. The dam was completed in 1983 and the site became operational in 1985. It collects water during the winter and spring and releases water for irrigation from June through September. Recreational fishing in the lake and in the outlet stream is permitted at certain times of year. Animals in the area include marmots. Shelek
Shelek ( kk, Шелек, ''Şelek''), formerly Chilik, is a town in Almaty Region of south-eastern Kazakhstan. Administrative center of Shelek rural district. It is located about 69 km north-east of the center of Esik. The KATO code is 194083100. History The settlement was founded in 1871 as the village of Chilik. In 1889, the 1889 Chilik earthquake caused severe damage. It was Zaitsevsky, from 1932 to May 1997 and was the administrative center of the Chilik region. On May 23, 1997, the Chilik district was abolished and incorporated into the Enbekshikazakh district. Prior to 1997, Shelek was the regional center of the Chilik district of the Almaty region, which became part of the Enbekshikazakh district with the center in the city of Esik. Etymology The Kazakh word "shelek" translated into Russian means "bucket", but scientists believe it to be a coincidence. Milyanfan
Milyanfan ( ky, Милянфан; russian: Милянфан, from dng, Милёнчуан; Hanzi: ) is a village in the Ysyk-Ata District of the Chüy Region of Kyrgyzstan. Its population was 5,271 in 2021. The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; ) is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. Trans-Ili Alatau
Ile Alatau ( kk, Ile Alatauy, ''Іле Алатауы''), also spelt as Trans-Ili Alatau, is a part of the Northern Tian Shan mountain system (ancient Mount Imeon) in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It is the northernmost mountain range of Tian Shan stretching for about with a maximal elevation of ( Talgar Peak). The term "Alatau" refers to a kind of mountain. The range is bounded from the north by the Ili Depression of the Ili River, hence the name. The former capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, is located at the foot of the range.
