Chile–Germany Relations
German-Chilean relations are foreign relations between Germany and Chile. Around 12,300 kilometers separate Chile and Germany but both nations still share a wide range of bilateral relations. Over the course of the last 150 years many Germans have settled in Chile for several different reasons. Migrating in the opposite direction, several thousand Chileans sought refuge in Germany during Pinochet's dictatorship. The first ties between modern-day Germany and Chile can be traced back to the 16th century when the first German settlers arrived in the newly founded settlements. In 1810, when Chile became independent from Spain, Hamburg was one of the first cities that engaged in intense trade with Valparaiso. During the revolution of Germany in 1848, as Chile encouraged Germans to emigrate, more and more German settlers arrived in Chile. Santiago De Chile
Santiago (, ; ), also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. It is the center of Chile's most densely populated region, the Santiago Metropolitan Region, whose total population is 8 million which is nearly 40% of the country's population, of which more than 6 million live in the city's continuous urban area. The city is entirely in the country's central valley. Most of the city lies between above mean sea level. Founded in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago has been the capital city of Chile since colonial times. Nazi Germany (lit. "National Socialist State"), ' (lit. "Nazi State") for short; also ' (lit. Iván Patricio Eugenio Manns de Folliot (3 August 1937 – 25 September 2021) was a Chilean singer, composer, author, poet, novelist, essayist, play writer and journalist. He is known for his 1965 song " Arriba en la Cordillera". Life and career Infancy and youth Patricio Manns was born in the rural town of Nacimiento, in central Chile, on 3 August 1937. He is the son of a primary school teacher of French descent and an agricultural engineer of German descent. Both of his parents played the piano: his father was a jazz aficionado but his mother studied classical piano. His mother was also central in cultivating his interest in literature. Marlene Ahrens
Marlene Ahrens Ostertag-Ebensperger (July 27, 1933 – June 17, 2020) was a Chilean athlete. She won the silver medal in Javelin throw at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne with a distance of 50.38 metres. She was the mother of journalist Karin Ebensperger. Biography Ostertag was born in Concepción, Chile, the daughter of German immigrants. In Melbourne, she was the Chilean flag bearer, and the only woman on the Olympic team. She participated in the Javelin throw, winning the silver medal with a distance of 50.38 metres. In doing so, she became the first and only Chilean woman who has won an Olympic medal. After the games, she won gold in both 1959 Pan American Games, held in Chicago, and 1963 Pan American Games held in São Paulo. Sebastián Keitel
Sebastián Keitel Bianchi (born February 14, 1973, in Santiago) is a Chilean ex- sprinter who competed mostly in the 200 metres. He was coached by renowned Chilean coach Pedro Soto Acuña. Biography Sebastián Keitel comes from an athletics family, his father Alberto Keitel, was a sprinter in the 1960s, his grandmother, María Cristina Böcke was the South American discus throw champion in 1939. He has been successful at the regional level, and won a bronze medal at the 1995 World Indoor Championships. He currently holds the national records of Chile in the 100 metres (10.10) and the 200 metres (20.15). He was considered at the time to be the fastest white man in the world in the 200 meter dash. Gabriel Silberstein (born 17 October 1974) is a former professional tennis player from Chile. Biography Early career As a junior he was a strong performer and most notably finished runner-up in the boys' doubles with Marcelo Ríos at the 1992 US Open. He won his first Challenger match aged 17 and in 1992 won a Challenger tournament in Ribeirão. Professional tour In 1993 he began competing professionally and made his first ATP Tour main draw appearance the following year at Santiago.
