Chile In The OTI Festival
Chile started participating in the OTI Festival in 1972 in Madrid and continued participating in an uninterrupted way till the last Show held in 2000 in Acapulco. History This country won the contest in two occasions: the first one in 1984 with the singer-songwriter Fernando Ubiergo with his song "Agualuna" (Moonwater). The second Chilean victory came in 1998 with the strambotical rapper and comedian Florcita Motuda with his song "Fin de siglo, es hora de inflamarse deprimirse o transformarse" (End of century, It's time to get wild, to get depressed or to transform ourselves). Apart from their victories, the Chilean member stations got the second place in the festival with Alberto Plaza and his song "Canción contra la tristeza" (A song against sadness) in 1995. Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN) is a Chilean public service broadcaster. It was founded by order of President Eduardo Frei Montalva and it was launched nationwide on 18 September 1969. Clorinda Érika Patricia Maldonado Aravena (born September 17, 1950), better known as just Patricia Maldonado, is a Chilean singer and television presenter. In the 1970s to the late 1990s, she was active as a singer and political activist. Maldonado is widely known in the Chilean media for her strong personality and political controversy. Artistic career Maldonado began her career as a performer of boleros and ballads during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1979, she gained stardom with the song "La quintralada", composed by Florcita Motuda. That same year, she represented Chile at the OTI Festival held in Caracas, Venezuela, with the song "La Música", by Scottie Scott. In 1982 she debuted as an actor in the telenovela ''De cara al Mañana'' on TVN.
