"Children of the Corn" is a short story by Stephen King, first published in the March 1977 issue of ''Penthouse (magazine), Penthouse'', and later collected in King's 1978 collection ''Night Shift (short story collection), Night Shift''. The story has been adapted into several films, spawning a horror feature film franchise Children of the Corn (film series), of the same name beginning Children of the Corn (1984 film), in 1984. In 2009, the story was included in the book ''Stephen King Goes to the Movies''. Plot Burt and Vicky, a couple trying to save their marriage, are driving to California for a vacation and to visit Vicky's brother. As they are driving through rural Nebraska and arguing, Burt is ready to call off the vacation and consult a divorce attorney. Then they accidentally run over a young boy who had his throat slit and was thrown into the road. Burt opens the boy's suitcase to find a crucifix made of twisted corn husks. Children of the Corn was an American hip-hop group formed in 1993, consisting of neighborhood friends and fellow Harlem rappers Big L, Cam'ron, Ma$e, Herb McGruff, and Bloodshed. The group's name is a play on words; it is short for Children of the Corner, and also references Stephen King's 1984 film of the same name. History Big L was the founder of the group, as he pushed Mase and Cam'ron off the streets and into the studio, as well as Bloodshed, who was Cam'ron's cousin, with the last member of the group being Herb McGruff. They released over 30 songs under the name Children of the Corn, as they tried for a record deal.
