Feeder (band)
Feeder are a Welsh rock band formed in Newport in 1994. They have released 11 studio albums, 12 compilations, four EPs and 43 singles, spending a combined total of 184 weeks on the singles and albums charts as of 2019, while accumulating 25 top 75 singles between 1997 and 2012. At their peak of commercial success, Feeder won two Kerrang! Awards in 2001 and 2003; they were inducted into their Hall of Fame in August 2019 for “Distinguished Services to Rock”. Feeder are one of the Britpop era bands to have continued success long after their peak. It was due to be the second in a series of two albums released in 2010 by the band, following up previous album ''Renegades''. However, the band decided to hold more recording sessions for the album, leading them to delay the album until 2012. Recording and production In 2010, during the ''Renegades'' sessions, a number of tracks were left off the album before then being considered for inclusion for the follow-up to that album. As there were not enough to fit on the album, more were recorded during the closing stages of the year, with the band taking a break from recording on 19 December, before resuming recording on 10 January 2011. Grant Nicholas
Grantley Jonathan "Grant" Nicholas (born 12 November 1967) is a Welsh musician, and lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Feeder. Early years Nicholas was born in Newport, South Wales, but grew up in Pwllmeyric, near Chepstow. He was educated at Monmouth School. He performed in public for the first time at the age of 11 at school, and gained four O-levels (the predecessor to GCSEs), including an A grade in Art. In school, Nicholas played the trumpet, and joined his first band, Sweet Leaf (named after a song by Black Sabbath, who were his favourite band in his school years, and the first he saw play live, at the Colston Hall in Bristol). He was promised his first guitar by his parents, as an incentive to pass his exams. He received the guitar, an Aron Les Paul copy after passing them. Chris Sheldon (born 25 September 1962) is an English record producer, particularly of rock music based in London, England. He has produced or mixed records for the Foo Fighters, Garbage, Big Country, Feeder, Therapy?, Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Pixies and Shed 7. He lives in London, is married and has two daughters. Career Sheldon was born in Pakistan when his parents were posted abroad for work and grew up in Surrey. He took his first steps in the music industry when he was a drummer in several local punk bands. In the mid-1980s he worked as engineer in productions of artists such as Dead or Alive, Prefab Sprout, Elkie Brooks and Roger Waters. "Borders" is a song by Feeder, released as the group's first single from their eighth album ''Generation Freakshow'' in 2012. The single charted at No. 52 in the UK, giving the group their 25th top 75 single and first UK chart visit since 2008's " We Are the People". The song was released on CD, cassette and 7" on 30 January 2012, with the parent album ''Generation Freakshow'' on 23 April 2012. This was the first time Feeder released a cassette single since 2001's "Just a Day". Reception According to trade magazine ''Music Week'', "Borders" charted at No. 52 with 4,663 sales. That week "Borders" sold 2,978 copies digitally, with 644 on CD, 574 on 7" and 467 on cassette, giving total physical sales of 1,685. It was the first Top 75 single to include sales from a cassette since Busted's 2004 single "Who's David?", which reached No. 1 in 2004. Idaho (Feeder Song)
Idaho is the third single to be released from the album ''Generation Freakshow'' by the British rock band Feeder. It was released on vinyl the week commencing 27 August 2012, although the digital format was already released the day prior. As the single was only released on a 7" vinyl and digital download, while not attracting mainstream airplay like many of Feeder's recent singles, "Idaho" did not chart within the top 200. This became Feeder's last ever single to date to be released on a physical format commercially. Music video The video features Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose in a bar, while the main character, played by Daniel Mays and dressed as the Lone Ranger, attempts a mechanical bull ride to win a trip to Idaho. This has often been seen as Feeder's "most laziest video" by many fans, as Nicholas and Hirose are only seen sitting down talking to people they do not seem to know while drinking alcohol, with only occasional shots of Nicholas lip-synching to the lyrics.
