Chihoku Line
The was a railway line operated by the Third-sector railway, third-sector Hokkaidō Chihoku Kōgen Railway Company in Hokkaidō, Japan. The line connected the municipalities of Ikeda, Hokkaidō, Ikeda and Kitami, Hokkaidō, Kitami until its closure in 2006. History The first segment of the line, originally called the and operated by Japanese Government Railways, was opened on September 22, 1910, and ran for 77.4 km, connecting Ikeda and Rikunbetsu (later renamed to Rikubetsu). The line was then extended further north, and on September 25, 1911, the segment connecting Rikunbetsu and Nokkeushi (present-day ) was opened. In 1912 the Abashiri Line was further extended to , and the line was renamed the . Once the Sekihoku Main Line, Sekihoku Line was extended to Nokkeushi in 1932, traffic largely shifted to the shorter Sekihoku Line. Ashoro, Hokkaidō
is a town located in Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. As of September 2016, the town has an estimated population of 7,150 and a density of 5.1 persons per km2. The total area is 1,408.09 km2. It was the largest municipality in Japan until the merger of Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture on February 1, 2005. Main industries of the town include dairying and farming of sugar beet and wheat. Lake Onnetō is a major attraction of the town and is a part of Akan National Park. Geography Ashoro is located in the northeastern part of Tokachi Subprefecture. Kushiro and Shiranuka are to the east and to the south are Honebestu and Obihiro. Kamishiro is to the west and to the north is Oketo, Rikubestu and Tsubetsu.
