Chief Of The General Staff (Moldova)
The Chief of the General Staff of the Moldovan National Army (''Marelui Stat Major al Armatei Republicii Moldova'') also known as the Commander of National Army is the professional head of the Moldovan National Army and the larger Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova. The position was established on 26 April 1994, two days after the general staff of the national army was established. The purpose of the Chief of the General Staff is to assist the Ministry of Defense (Moldova), Minister of Defense and the President of Moldova in commanding the Moldovan National Army. The Chief of the General Staff is also the superior to the Commander of the Moldovan Ground Forces and the Commander of the Moldovan Air Force. During wartime, the Chief of the General Staff becomes the First Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces should the Minister of Defense be a civilian. The Moldovan National Army ( ro, Armata Națională a Republicii Moldova) is the senior branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova composed of the Air Force and the Land Forces. The National Army is considered to be the regular duty military force while the other branch of the armed forces, the Trupele de Carabinieri, is focused on paramilitary activities. History The National Army was officially established on 3 September 1991 on the basis of the Soviet Army's 14th Guards Army. Igor Gorgan
Brigadier General Igor Gorgan (born 2 August 1969) is a Moldovan military officer who is currently the Chief of the General Staff. Biography He was born on 2 August 1969 in Dubăsari. At the age of 18, he joined the Soviet Army, immediately attending the Combined Arms Higher Military School in Novosibirsk until 1991. Upon graduation, he immediately took up a position in an airborne division in Bolgrad, Ukraine. From 1992 to 1995, he was the commander of a guard company in the Ștefan cel Mare 2nd Motorized Infantry Brigade. From 2001 to 2002, he was a student at the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. The Moldovan Air Force ( ro, Forțele Aeriene ale Republicii Moldova), known officially as Air Forces Command is the national air force of Moldova. Colonel Pavel Chirău (27 September 19528 November 2008) was a Moldovan military officer who served as the first Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of Moldova.
