Chief Of The Bureau Of Engraving And Printing
The Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is the head of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing within the United States Department of the Treasury. The current director is Leonard R. Olijar. The position has existed since 1862, when the United States Congress authorized the Treasury Department to begin printing paper money. Until the 1890s, the office was commonly known as Chief of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The Director operates with general directions provided by the United States Secretary of the Treasury. Benjamin Harrison
Benjamin Harrison (August 20, 1833March 13, 1901) was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 23rd president of the United States from 1889 to 1893. He was a member of the Harrison family of Virginia–a grandson of the ninth president, William Henry Harrison, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, a founding father. Harrison was born on a farm by the Ohio River and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After moving to Indianapolis, he established himself as a prominent local attorney, Presbyterian church leader, and politician in Indiana. William Morton Meredith (1835–1917) was an official in the United States Department of the Treasury who was Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1889 to 1893 and from 1900 to 1906. Biography William Morton Meredith was born in Centerville, Indiana in 1835, the son of Samuel C. Meredith and his wife Margaret (Ballard) Meredith. He attended a year of college, but left shortly to work in his father's printing office. He later worked for the ''Indianapolis Journal''. He married Emiline "Emma" Schelenberger in 1859. With the outbreak of the American Civil War, Meredith enlisted in the Union Army, but Governor of Indiana Oliver Hazard Perry Morton soon appointed Meredith state commissary-general.
