Chief Of Staff Of The Sri Lanka Army
Chief of Staff of the Army (CoSA) has been the title of the second in command of the Sri Lanka Army. The post is held by a regular officer of the rank of major general and is the second senior position in the army. Chief of staff is charged with assisting the Army Commander in both operational and administrative aspects, functioning as the ''Acting Army Commander'' in his absences or incantation. Chief of staff is assisted by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army. History The post was established in 1949, when Lieutenant Colonel Anton Muttukumaru was appointed as Chief of Staff to Brigadier the Earl of Caithness, the first Army Commander when the Ceylon Army was formed. Sanjaya Wanasinghe
Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe RSP, VSV, USP, VSP (born 13 October 1968) is a retired general in the Sri Lanka Army. He served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, having served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Commandant of the Volunteer Force and Commander, Security Forces Headquarters – Mullaitivu. He is the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery. General L. D. E. Cecil Waidyaratne, VSV, USP (16 May 1938 – 18 December 2001) was a Sri Lanka Army officer. He was 12th Commander of the Sri Lankan Army and a former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand. Education Educated at St. Benedict's College, Colombo, where he played for the college cricket team. Ceylon Artillery
The Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) is the artillery arm of the Sri Lanka Army. It is made up of ten regular regiments and two volunteer regiments. The SLA is headquartered at Panagoda Cantonment, Panagoda. The emblem of the SLA is modeled after that used by the Royal Artillery, but with the lion from both the flag and emblem instead of the crown, with the lion depicted holding the Kastane sabre. General Hamilton Wanasinghe, VSV (born 1935) was a Full General in the Sri Lanka Army. The Gemunu Watch (GW) ("King Dutugemunu's Own") is a infantry regiment of the Sri Lanka Army, formed with troops from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Ceylon Light Infantry and the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Ceylon Sinha Regiment in 1962. General Deshamanya Don Sepala Attygalle, (14 October 1921 – 15 January 2001) was a Sri Lankan senior army officer, civil servant and diplomat. The longest serving Commander of the Sri Lankan Army (1967–1977), he went on to serve as the Permanent secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Major General Deshamanya Alexander Richard Udugama, MBE (11 November 1911 – 14 May 1995) was a Sri Lankan military leader, politician and diplomat. Former Army Commander (1964–1966), he was elected as Member of Parliament for Matale from 1970 to 1977 and served as Sri Lankan Ambassador to Iraq from 1979 to 1982.
