Saburo Tokura
Saburo Tokura (戸倉三郎, ''Tokura Saburo;'' born August 11, 1954) is a Japanese jurist who has served as the Chief Justice of Japan since June 2022, having previously served as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of Japan from 2017 to 2022. Education and Career Tokura was born on August 11, 1954, in Japan. He attended Hitotsubashi University and graduated with a degree in Law in 1980. Tokura spent over 35 years serving on lower courts before his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2017. From 1982 to 1992, Tokura served on the district courts of Osaka, Sapporo, and Tokyo, as part of the departments of Civil Affairs and Personal Affairs. In 1992, He was appointed as a judge in the Tokyo District Court. He kept this job until 1998, despite also serving as a professor since 1994. Naoto Ōtani
is a Japanese jurist and lawyer who served as the 19th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan from 2018 to 2022. Early life and education Ōtani was born in Akabira, Hokkaido, Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law in 1975, and became an Assistant Judge of the Tokyo District Court in 1977. He became a Judge of the Tokyo District Court in 1994, a Professor at the Legal Training and Research Institute in 1995, and later served as a Judge of the Tokyo High Court in 2010. He became the Chief Judge of the Shizuoka District Court in 2011. Before becoming Chief Justice, Ōtani was the President of the Osaka High Court and was also one of the Justices of the Supreme Court. Itsurō Terada
is a Japanese lawyer who served as the 18th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan. Early life and education Terada was born in Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. He was born into a family of great judicial significance. His father, Jirō Terada, was the Supreme Court's 10th Chief Justice. In 1972, he graduated from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law. By 1980, Terada had held various positions as Assistant Judge in several District Courts, the Tokyo District Court in 1974, the Sapporo District Court in 1977 and the Osaka District Court in 1980. Terada was also the Ambassador of Japan to the Netherlands in 1981. Akira Machida (町田 顯 ''Machida Akira'', October 16, 1936 – April 5, 2015) was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan from 2002 to 2006. He was born in Shimonoseki, Japan. He first began his career in 1959, when he was appointed as a legal apprentice.
