Chicago–Kansas City Expressway
The Chicago–Kansas City Expressway is a highway that runs between Chicago, Illinois, and Kansas City, Missouri. The road is known as Route 110 in Missouri and Illinois Route 110 (IL 110) in Illinois. IL 110 was created through legislation on May 27, 2010, as the designated route for the Illinois portion of the Chicago–Kansas City Expressway. Route description Missouri The Expressway starts in downtown Claycomo on I-35 and leaves the city in a northeast direction. In Cameron, the route turns east on US 36 and crosses the state via Chillicothe and Macon. East of Hannibal, the route continues east on I-72 through Hannibal and across the Mississippi River. US 36 and I-35 in Missouri has the same comprehensive sign package similar to Illinois along the Chicago–Kansas City Expressway, including the Route 110 designation and the "CKC" logo on every route marker between Hannibal and Kansas City. Interstate 172
Interstate 172 (I-172) is a spur route from I-72 entirely within the US state of Illinois. The highway runs north from its start outside of Hannibal, Missouri, to about west of Fowler. At U.S. Route 24 (US 24), I-172 becomes Illinois Route 336 (IL 336), which runs north and east to Macomb via Carthage. The entire portion of I-172 and I-72 from I-172 east to Springfield is also known by its former name, the Central Illinois Expressway. I-172 is long. Interstate 72 (I-72) is an Interstate Highway in the midwestern United States. Its western terminus is in Hannibal, Missouri, at an intersection with U.S. Route 61 (US 61); its eastern terminus is at Country Fair Drive in Champaign, Illinois. Mark Twain Memorial Bridge
The Mark Twain Memorial Bridge is a bridge over the Mississippi River at Hannibal, Missouri, childhood home of Mark Twain, for whom the bridge is named. The bridge, north of the original bridge, was finished in 2000. The bridge carries traffic for Interstate 72 and U.S. Highway 36. The state of Missouri has put up a stone picture of Twain on the Missouri side of the bridge. The bridge opened to traffic on September 16, 2000. As part of the construction project, U.S. 36 was rerouted farther north, eliminating a dangerous sharp curve that had been on the Missouri approach. The cost of the bridge was $55 million. Macon, Missouri
Macon is a city in and the county seat of Macon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,457 at the 2020 census. History Macon was platted in 1856. Like the county, Macon was named for Nathaniel Macon. A post office called Macon City was established in 1856, and the name was changed to Macon in 1892. In May 1898, there was a string of break-ins in the area of Macon. The break-ins included the theft of food and items, as well as assaults on women. In late June, there was a break-in at the home of John Koechel, a blind broom maker. During this break-in, there were references to previous assaults, an attempted assault, and a theft of two sacks of flour. Police officers followed a trail of tiny white specks to the home of Henry Williams, who was later arrested with no resistance. Chillicothe is a city in the state of Missouri and the county seat of Livingston County, Missouri, United States. The population was 9,107 at the 2020 census. The name "Chillicothe" is Shawnee for "big town", and was named after their ''Chillicothe'', located since 1774 about a mile from the present-day city. History of Chillicothe and Livingston County This territory was originally settled by indigenous peoples of the Americas. The Osage and Missouri were in the territory at the time of earliest European contact, which was mostly by French explorers and traders. By 1800 the Shawnee and Iowa had migrated here. Interstate 35 (I-35) is an Interstate Highway that stretches from Laredo, Texas, in the south to Duluth in the north. The portion of it through Missouri travels nearly from just south of Kansas City, through the Downtown Loop, and across the Missouri River before leaving the downtown area.
