Chiang Rai International Airport
Mae Fah Luang - Chiang Rai International Airport ( th, ท่าอากาศยานแม่ฟ้าหลวง เชียงราย, ) is in the city of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. The airport is about 8 km from the city center. Since 1998 it has been managed by the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). In 2013 the airport handled over 1,000,000 passengers and 7,000 passenger flights. The airport had international flight facilities and served few international routes to Kunming, Haikou, Hangzhou, Changsha, Xishuangbanna, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, all of which have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2014, Airports of Thailand said that they would expand Chiang Rai airport. The plans include building an additional taxiway and more shops, and possibly extending the runway. Taxiway
A taxiway is a path for aircraft at an airport connecting runways with aprons, hangars, terminals and other facilities. They mostly have a hard surface such as asphalt or concrete, although smaller general aviation airports sometimes use gravel or grass. Most airports do not have a specific speed limit for taxiing (though some do). There is a general rule on safe speed based on obstacles. Operators and aircraft manufacturers might have limits. Old Chiang Rai Airport
Old Chiang Rai Airport is a non-active airport near the city of Chiang Rai in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. History In 1926, Chiang Rai Airport was established, making it the first airport in the region and the second airport in Thailand. Later, during the Pacific War, it was used for transporting military equipment. It was former air base of the 417 Royal Thai Air Force Squadron. It was thought to have been abandoned in 1992 as the new one, Mae Fah Luang Airport opened. Hat Yai International Airport ( th, ท่าอากาศยานหาดใหญ่, ) is an international airport in southern Thailand in Songkhla Province near the city of Hat Yai. It is under the management of Airports of Thailand, PLC (AOT). It serves more than 1.5 million passengers per year, 9,500 flights and 12,000 tons of cargo.
