Chew Valley Gazette
The Chew Valley and Wrington Vale Gazette is a monthly local newspaper for the Chew Valley and surrounding areas of north Somerset, England. It was previously published as the Chew Valley Digest. The first issue of the Digest was published in April 1984 and the last issue was printed in January 1989, to be replaced by the Gazette, which published its first issue in February 1989. The paper's offices are in Chew Magna. It is distributed free to local residents and available on subscription to others. It also publishes the annual Chew Valley Green Pages. Chew Magna
Chew Magna is a village and civil parish within the Chew Valley in the Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset, in the Ceremonial counties of England, ceremonial county of Somerset, England. The parish has a population of 1,149. To the south of the village is Chew Valley Lake. The village is on the B3130 road, about from Bristol, from Bath, Somerset, Bath, from the city of Wells, Somerset, Wells, and from Bristol Airport. The village is close to the northern edge of the Mendip Hills (a designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and was designated a conservation area in 1978. Chew Valley
The Chew Valley is an affluent area in North Somerset, England, named after the River Chew, which rises at Chewton Mendip, and joins the River Avon at Keynsham. Technically, the area of the valley is bounded by the water catchment area of the Chew and its tributaries; however, the name Chew Valley is often used less formally to cover other nearby areas, for example, Blagdon Lake and its environs, which by a stricter definition are part of the Yeo Valley. The valley is an area of rich arable and dairy farmland, interspersed with a number of villages. The landscape consists of the valley of the River Chew and is generally low-lying and undulating. It is bounded by higher ground ranging from Dundry Down to the north, the Lulsgate Plateau to the west, the Mendip Hills to the south and the Hinton Blewett, Temple Cloud, Clutton and Marksbury plateau areas to the east. Northcliffe Media Ltd. (formerly Northcliffe Newspapers Group) was a large regional newspaper publisher in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe, owned by Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT). In 2012, the company was sold by DMGT to a newly formed company, Local World, which also bought Iliffe News and Media from the Yattendon Group. In October 2015, Trinity Mirror bought Local World. It operated from over 30 publishing centres, and also has 18 daily titles. The ''Bristol Post'' is a city/regional five-day-a-week (formerly appearing six days per week) newspaper covering news in the city of Bristol, including stories from the whole of Greater Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. It was titled the ''Bristol Evening Post'' until April 2012. The website was relaunched as BristolLive in April 2018. It is owned by Reach PLC, formerly known as Trinity Mirror. History The ''Evening Post'' was founded in 1932 by local interests, in response to an agreement between the two national press groups which owned the then two Bristol evening newspapers, Lord Rothermere, owner of the ''Bristol Evening World'', and Baron Camrose, owner of the ''Bristol Times and Echo''. The Tindle Group is a British multimedia company operating regional newspapers and radio stations across the British Isles. It publishes over 200 local newspapers in the UK, a number of which are over 100 years old. The company is based in Farnham, Surrey, under CEO Danny Cammiade. It is owned by the Tindle family. Founder Sir Ray Tindle was a "strong believer in 'ultra-local' journalism", a culture which the company still follows today. He remained the company's president until his death in 2022. His son, Owen Tindle, took over as chairman in 2017.
