Chester Gillan
Chester Gillan (born 25 September 1943) is a former Canadian educator and politician from Prince Edward Island. Born in Charlottetown and educated at Saint Dunstan's University and the University of New Brunswick, Gillan was a high school teacher before entering politics, being elected from 1996 to 2007 as a candidate for the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party in the electoral district of Parkdale-Belvedere (now ''Charlottetown-Sherwood'') in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Legislative Assembly Of Prince Edward Island
The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Legislative Assembly meets at Province House, which is located at the intersection of Richmond and Great George Streets in Charlottetown. Bills passed by the Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Prince Edward Island, represented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island. Pat Binns
Patrick George Binns (born October 8, 1948), is a Canadian diplomat, the 30th premier of Prince Edward Island from 1996 to 2007 and Canadian Ambassador to Ireland from 2007 to 2010. Binns has a long history of public service, most notably being the 30th Premier of PEI for 11 years, during which time he was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island. During his premiership, Binns was known as the province's "affable and unassuming premier." He also served as Canada's Consul General in Boston, Massachusetts. Before the premiership Binns was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts. The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island is one of three major political parties on Prince Edward Island. The party and its rival, the Liberals, have alternated in power since responsible government was granted in 1851. History The policies of the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives (PCs) are very similar. The major differences are in their allegiances to federal parties and in personalities. St. Dunstan's University (SDU) is a former university which was located on the northern outskirts of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. SDU merged with Prince of Wales College (PWC) in 1969 to form the University of Prince Edward Island. St. Dunstan's College was founded by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlottetown on January 15, 1855 as a seminary which trained young men for the Catholic clergy. The St. Andrew's College, founded in 1831, was its predecessor. By the mid-20th century, the college had expanded into a small liberal arts university. A post-Second World War enrollment boom mandated an expansion which saw new residences and teaching buildings constructed on the campus located along Charlottetown's Elm Avenue (the Malpeque Road).
