Cherub Of The Mist
''Cherub of the Mist'' (also called ''Return of the Firecat'') is a documentary film based on the life of two red pandas, namely, Mini and Sweety, who were released into the Singalila National Park in the Darjeeling District, India. The documentary which was filmed by Naresh Bedi and Rajesh Bedi over 2 years, followed Indian biologist Dr. Sunita Pradhan who at that time had been studying red pandas for over 10 years. It was the first time that someone had filmed the rare red pandas in their natural habitat and shows the animals in courtship, mating, nest building, and the rearing of cubs. Red pandas are found in Nepal, through North-eastern India and Bhutan, and into China and are listed in the Red Data Book. The population of red pandas at that time was estimated to be around 2,500. Naresh Bedi
Naresh Bedi is an Indian filmmaker, the eldest of the Bedi Brothers and a member of the second generation of three generations of Wildlife photographers and filmmakers. He is the first Asian to receive a Wildscreen Panda Award and the first Indian to receive a wildlife film nomination for the British Academy Film Awards. He was honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Biography Naresh Bedi was born in Haridwar in the present day Indian state of Uttarakhand, to Ramesh Bedi, a wildlife photographer and author of 74 books on the subject. Red Panda
The red panda (''Ailurus fulgens''), also known as the lesser panda, is a small mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It has dense reddish-brown fur with a black belly and legs, white-lined ears, a mostly white muzzle and a ringed tail. Its head-to-body length is with a tail, and it weighs between . Singalila National Park
Singalila National Park is a National park of India located on the Singalila Ridge at an elevation of more than 2300 metres above sea level, in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It is well known for the trekking route to Sandakphu that runs through it. History The park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1986, and was made an Indian national park in 1992. The region had long been used as the trekking route from Manebhanjang to Sandakphu (the highest peak of West Bengal) and Phalut. The Singalila area in Darjeeling was purchased by the British Government from Sikkim Durbar in 1882, and notified a Reserve Forest under the Indian Forest Act 1878. Darjeeling District
Darjeeling District is the northernmost district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The district is famous for its hill station and Darjeeling tea. Darjeeling is the district headquarters. Kurseong, Siliguri and Mirik, three major towns in the district, are the subdivisional headquarters of the district. Kalimpong was one of the subdivisions but on 14 February 2017, it officially became a separate Kalimpong district.
