Cherry Gully Tunnel
Cherry Gully Tunnel is a heritage-listed railway tunnel on the Warwick - Stanthorpe Line, Silverwood, Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1878 to 1880 by J & A Overend & Co. It is also known as Gorge Tunnel and Big Tunnel. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 July 2000. History The exploitation of the mineral resources of Queensland was recognised by political interests in Queensland as being closely linked with the development of a railway system from the period of the late 1860s and early 1870s. This connection between political decisions and economic development was further linked and with the decision taken in 1877 to construct mineral railways running from Townsville to Charters Towers, Bundaberg to Mount Perry and Maryborough to Gympie. Silverwood, Queensland
Silverwood is a rural locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Silverwood had a population of 38 people. Geography Mount Silverwood is in the west of the locality () rising to above sea level. Connolly Dam is a reservoir in the centre of the locality (). Originally known as Silverwood Dam, it was renamed Connolly Dam after Dan Connolly, who was Mayor of Warwick in 1910 and again from 1924 to 1932. Wallangarra is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia on the border with New South Wales. In the , the locality of Wallangarra had a population of 468 people. It is the third-most southerly town in Queensland, south west of Brisbane. Wallangarra is on the Queensland side of the border and Jennings is on the New South Wales side. John Macrossan
John Murtagh Macrossan (1832 – 30 March 1891) was an Australian politician of the late 19th century in the parliament of Queensland. Early and parliamentary life Macrossan was born in Donegal, Ireland. He moved to the colony of Victoria at the age of 21 to work on the gold diggings. Twelve years later he moved to North Queensland where he became well known among the miners in 1873 was elected a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Kennedy electoral district. He championed the causes of regulation of the mining industry and Separatism of North Queensland as a separate colony.
