Cherry Creek Bridge
The Cherry Creek Bridge is a concrete arch bridge spanning Cherry Creek near Franktown, Colorado. State Highway 83 runs atop it. It was built in 1948 by J.H.& N.M. Monaghan & Associates and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located within Castlewood Canyon State Park. Its design and construction are credited to the Colorado Department of Highways and J.H.& N.M. & Associates. It was a post-war exception to the practice of using lighter concrete bridge designs in the state. Cherry Creek (Colorado)
Cherry Creek is a tributary of the South Platte River, long, in Colorado in the United States. Course Cherry Creek rises in the high plateau, east of the Front Range, in northwestern El Paso County. It flows north, through Castlewood Canyon State Park where it is spanned by the historic Cherry Creek Bridge, past Parker and through portions of Centennial and Aurora, and into southeast Denver. It flows northwest through Denver, becoming an urban stream and joining the South Platte River at Confluence Park in central Denver just west of downtown and approximately east of the foothills, near the site where the city of Denver was founded in 1858. State Highway 83 (SH 83) is a state highway that is located along the Front Range in the U.S. State of Colorado. Spanning about from the SH 21 (Powers Boulevard) interchange in northern Colorado Springs and SH 2 (Colorado Boulevard.) in Denver. The highway follows a south–north route, paralleling Interstate 25 to the east and serving rural areas. Along with I-25, it is one of the only two routes in the Colorado State Highway System that directly connects Denver and Colorado Springs. The section of SH 83 in Colorado Springs is signed as Interquest Parkway, which begins as a four-lane road. Castlewood Canyon State Park
Castlewood Canyon State Park is a Colorado state park near Franktown, Colorado. The park retains a unique part of Colorado's history, the remains of Castlewood Canyon Dam. Visitors can still see the remnants and damage from that dam which burst in 1933. The event sent a wave of water all the way to downtown Denver resulting in a flood. Also contained within the park is the historic Cherry Creek Bridge. The Colorado Department of Highways is the antecedent of today's Colorado Department of Transportation. Along with many other functions, it served as a bridge architect and at times as a bridge builder. Many of its bridges are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
