Alexander Mikhailovich Chernin (russian: Александр Михайлович Чернин; born 6 March 1960) is a Soviet-born Hungarian chess grandmaster and trainer. Tournaments and championships Born in Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR, as a youth he frequently succeeded in tournaments and climbed rapidly through the junior rankings to participate at the very highest level. At Skien in 1979, he entered the World Junior Championship and finished runner-up to Yasser Seirawan. A short while later (January 1980), he played in the European Junior Championship at Groningen and won the event (ahead of Zurab Azmaiparashvili). These prestigious successes soon led him to an International Master title and more importantly, laid the foundation stones for his continued development over the next few years. Cayle Chernin
Cayle Vivian Chernin (December 4, 1947 – February 18, 2011) was a Canadian actress, writer, and producer born in Glace Bay, on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She began her career with a small, but important, role in Donald Shebib's Canadian film ''Goin' Down the Road'' (1970). She later produced award-winning documentaries, and acted in film, television and theatre; when she returned to acting in the 2000s, having become better known as a filmmaker she initially used the stage names Cayle-Lorraine Sinclair or Lorraine Sinclair in her acting roles, before reverting back to Cayle Chernin in the late 2000s. Chernin had ovarian cancer which was rapidly spreading, but she died of a virus she caught in hospital on February 18, 2011, at the age of 63. Diagnosed in June 2010, she filmed a sequel to ''Goin' Down the Road'' titled ''Down the Road Again'', in October 2010. The film was theatrically released posthumously in October 2011. Elena Davidovna Kats-Chernin (born 4 November 1957) is a Soviet-born Australian pianist and composer, best known for her ballet ''Wild Swans''. Early life and career Elena Kats-Chernin was born in Tashkent (now the capital of independent Uzbekistan, but then part of the Soviet Union) and is Jewish. She studied at the Yaroslavl Music School and the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow from age 14, and migrated to Australia in 1975, continuing her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, under Richard Toop (composition) and Gordon Watson (piano). She also participated in the Darlinghurst underground theatre scene, with groups such as Cabaret Conspiracy, Fifi Lamour, Boom Boom La Burn and others, often under the name Elena Kats. Kim Chernin (May 7, 1940 – December 17, 2020) was an American feminist writer, poet, and memoirist. Biography Chernin was born on May 7, 1940, in the Bronx, New York. Her parents, Rose Chernin and Paul Kusnitz, were Russian-born Jewish immigrants. Rose Chernin was an organizer for the Communist Party and founded the Los Angeles Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Born. Paul Kusnitz was a teacher of Marxism for the Communist Party. Chernin's childhood was influenced by the death of her older sister, Nina, to Hodgkin's lymphoma. Shortly after Nina's death, the Kusnitz family relocated to Los Angeles to be near relatives. Her mother resumed full-time work as a party organizer and in 1951 made national headline news when she was arrested for "advocating the overthrow of the government."
