Chern Prize (ICCM)
The Chern Prize in Mathematics was established in in honor of Professor Shiing-Shen Chern. The Chern Prize is presented every three years at the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians to Chinese mathematicians and those of Chinese descent for "exceptional contributions to mathematical research or to public service activities in support of mathematics". Winners are selected by a committee of mathematicians to recognize the achievements of mathematicians of Chinese descent. In 2010, a special commemorative event was held in Beijing in addition to the normal award presentation to celebrate the centennial of Professor Chern's birth. Chern Medal
The Chern Medal is an international award recognizing outstanding lifelong achievement of the highest level in the field of mathematics. The prize is given at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), which is held every four years. Introduction It is named in honor of the late Chinese mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern. The award is a joint effort of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and the Chern Medal Foundation (CMF) to be bestowed in the same fashion as the IMU's other three awards (the Fields Medal, the Abacus Medal, and the Gauss Prize), i.e. at the opening ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), which is held every four years. Stephen Shing-Toung Yau
Stephen Shing-Toung Yau (; born 1952) is a Chinese-American mathematician. He is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and currently teaches at Tsinghua University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Mathematical Society. Biography Shing-Toung Yau was born in 1952 in British Hong Kong, with his ancestral home in Jiaoling County, Guangdong, China. He is the younger brother of Fields Medalist Shing-Tung Yau. After graduating from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he studied mathematics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he learnt after Henry Laufer and earned his M.A. in 1974 and Ph.D. in 1976. Ronnie Chan Chi-chung (; born 1949) is a Hong Kong businessman. Education Chan earned bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from a California State University. He received an MBA from the University of Southern California in 1976. Chan was given honorary doctorates by Tel Aviv University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. National Taiwan University (NTU; ) is a public research university in Taipei, Taiwan. The university was founded in 1928 during Japanese rule as the seventh of the Imperial Universities. Lee Si-chen (; born 13 August 1952 in Gangshan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan), is a Taiwanese engineer specializing in semiconductors, a researcher in amorphous silicon in the early development in Taiwan, and an IEEE Fellow. Bong Lian
A bong (also known as a water pipe) is a filtration device generally used for smoking cannabis, tobacco, or other herbal substances. In the bong shown in the photo, the gas flows from the lower port on the left to the upper port on the right. In construction and function, a bong is similar to a hookah, except smaller and especially more portable.
