This genus differs from ''Phanera'' in having a hypanthium that is equal in length or longer than the sepals, indehiscent fruit, many-seeded fruit, and the funicle extending most of the circumference of the seed. Species ''Cheniella'' comprises the following species: * ''Cheniella clemensiorum'' (Merr.) R.Clark & Mackinder * ''Cheniella corymbosa'' (Roxb.) Hypanthium
In angiosperms, a hypanthium or floral cup is a structure where basal portions of the calyx, the corolla, and the stamens form a cup-shaped tube. It is sometimes called a floral tube, a term that is also used for corolla tube and calyx tube. It often contains the nectaries of the plant. It is present in many plant families, although varies in structural dimensions and appearance. This differentiation between the hypanthium in particular species is useful for identification. Some geometric forms are obconic shapes as in toyon, whereas some are saucer-shaped as in '' Mitella caulescens''. Its presence is diagnostic of many families, including the Rosaceae, Grossulariaceae, and Fabaceae. In some cases, it can be so deep, with such a narrow top, that the flower can appear to have an inferior ovary - the ovary is below the other attached floral parts. The hypanthium is known by different common names in differing species. In the eucalypts, it is referred to as the ''gum nut''; ...

Funicle (other)
Funiculus (''Latin'' for "slender rope") is any cord-like structure in anatomy or biology, and may refer to: * in the peripheral nervous system a bundle of axons that may be bundled into a nerve fascicle * in the central nervous system one of the paired white matter regions of the spinal cord: the anterior funiculus, the lateral funiculus, and the posterior funiculus; and in the fourth ventricle the funiculus separans a strip of ependyma. * the umbilical cord attaching a fetus to the placenta during pregnancy * the spermatic cord formed by the vas deferens and surrounding tissue * in insect antennae, the funicle is the segment connecting the club with the base * in flowering plants, the funiculus is the stalk that attaches an ovule to the placenta * in mycology Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy and their use to humans, including as a source for tinder, traditional medicine, f ...

Indehiscent
Dehiscence is the splitting of a mature plant structure along a built-in line of weakness to release its contents. This is common among fruits, anthers and sporangia. Sometimes this involves the complete detachment of a part; structures that open in this way are said to be dehiscent. Structures that do not open in this way are called indehiscent, and rely on other mechanisms such as decay or predation to release the contents. A similar process to dehiscence occurs in some flower buds (e.g., ''Platycodon'', ''Fuchsia''), but this is rarely referred to as dehiscence unless circumscissile dehiscence is involved; anthesis is the usual term for the opening of flowers. Dehiscence may or may not involve the loss of a structure through the process of abscission. The lost structures are said to be caducous. Association with crop breeding Manipulation of dehiscence can improve crop yield since a trait that causes seed dispersal is a disadvantage for farmers whose goal is to collect ...
