Chenggong, Taitung
Chenggong Township or Chengkung Township() is an urban township in Taitung County, Taiwan. It is a coastal town facing the Pacific Ocean. Chenggong Fish Harbor is just west of downtown. History Chenggong was originally an Amis settlement from which came the Hokkien name Moalaulau (). During Japanese rule, it was renamed to of Taitō Prefecture. After 1945, to avoid confusion with Singang Township of Chiayi County and to distinguish it from Tainan's Sinckan (now called Sinshih), it was changed to Chenggong, which commemorates the eponymous general Koxinga (Cheng Ch'eng-kung) who expelled the Dutch from Taiwan. Geography The township has 14,943 inhabitants and its total area is 144.9938 km². Climate Along with the most of the rest of Taitung County, Chenggong has a tropical monsoon climate. Township (Taiwan)
Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. As of 2022, there are totally 184 townships, including 38 urban townships, 122 rural townships and 24 mountain indigenous townships. 174 townships with 35 urban and 118 rural townships are located in Taiwan Province and 10 townships with 3 urban and 4 rural townships are located in Fujian Province. Taitung County Museum Of Natural History
The Taitung County Museum of Natural History () is a museum in Sanxian Village, Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. Architecture The museum is housed in a 3-story building. The ground floor houses the research archive room and special exhibition room. The upper and topmost floors house the exhibition hall. Sanxiantai
Sanxiantai ( Amis: nuwalian; ) is an area containing a beach and several islands located on the coast of Chenggong Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. The beach stretches for ten kilometers in length. It is situated at the 112-kilometer mark. A popular tourist attraction for its rocky coastal views, the area is well known for its long footbridge in the shape of a sea dragon that connects the coast to the largest island. Old Donghe Bridge
The Old Donghe Bridge or Old Tungho Bridge () is a bridge in Taitung County, Taiwan. It connects Chenggong Township and Donghe Township over Mawuku River. History The bridge was designed and built in 1926 by the Japanese under the name Jikuen Bridge as a suspension bridge. It was the longest bridge designed during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. In 1953, the bridge was rebuilt due to damage caused by typhoon by maintaining the original height of the towers at each end. Currently, the bridge is opened only for pedestrians. Architecture The bridge is 127 meters long and 4.65 meters wide made of concrete. At the northern end in Chenggong Township side, it has an arch-shaped pier and sits on top of hard limestone soil foundation. At the southern end in Donghe Township side, it has framed pier and sits on top of soft sedimentary rock foundation.
