Chen Zhi () is a Chinese guitar teacher (pedagogue) and promoter, who is today known for the exceptionally high level that his classical guitar students reach. He is one of China's best-known personalities of the guitar in general (not just the classical guitar). Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. Yang Xuefei
Xuefei Yang (; born March 15, 1977) is a Chinese classical guitarist. Early years Yang was born in Beijing in 1977, and began playing the guitar when she was seven. Three years later, she started studying under Chen Zhi, the Chairman of the China Classical Guitar Society. She made a public debut at the First China International Guitar Festival. At her debut, Masaru Kohno presented her a guitar, Pepe by Aria; it was her first foreign-made guitar. She won second prize at the Beijing Senior Guitar competition when she was eleven. In her youth, Yang played extensively in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Spain, and Australia, and giving concert tours in Taiwan, Japan and Portugal. Su Meng (; born 1988) is a classical guitarist. She was born in Qingdao, Shandong. She started studying classical guitar in 1997 under the tuition of Chen Zhi of the Central Conservatory of Music. In 2006 she was under full scholarship of Manuel Barrueco of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. Li Jie (; born 1981) is a Chinese classical guitarist. Biography She began studying the classical guitar at the age of 11 ( Chinese age) under Professor Chen Zhi. One year later, she appeared as a performer on the television program "Classical Guitar's Technique and Performance" broadcast on China's official national television station CCTV. In 1995, she enrolled in Middle School (high school) at the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music (CCM) in China. Li Jie won the 2nd International Guitar Competition in Hong Kong in August 1998.
