Chen Hwai-en
Chen Hwai-en (; born 1959) is a Taiwanese film director and cinematographer. He began working with Hou Hsiao-hsien in 1983, as a script supervisor. Chen's debut feature film ''Island Etude'' (2006) was shown at the Taipei Film Festival, and served as Taiwan's submission to the 80th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after ''Lust, Caution'' was rejected. A few of Chen's documentaries have been funded by entrepreneur Tung Tsu-hsien, namely ''The Untrammeled Traveler'' (2011) about writer Yu Kuang-chung, and ''Man-fei'' (2017), titled for its subject, choreographer Lo Man-fei. Hou Hsiao-hsien
Hou Hsiao-hsien (; born 8 April 1947) is a Mainland Chinese-born Taiwanese film director, screenwriter, producer and actor. He is a leading figure in world cinema and in Taiwan's New Wave cinema movement. He won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1989 for his film ''A City of Sadness'' (1989), and the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 for '' The Assassin'' (2015). Other highly regarded works of his include '' The Puppetmaster'' (1993) and ''Flowers of Shanghai'' (1998). Taipei Film Festival
The Taipei Film Festival (TFF; ) is a film festival promoted by the city of Taipei, Taiwan, through the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Taipei City Government. It was first held in 1998, from September 28 to October 5. Currently chaired by cinematographer Mark Lee Ping Bin, Taipei Film Festival is the only festival in Taiwan that offers a New Talent Competition for aspiring directors from around the world and a Taipei Awards competition for Taiwanese filmmakers. The 80th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2007. ''Lust, Caution'' () is a 2007 erotic period espionage mystery romance film directed by Ang Lee, based on the 1979 novella by Eileen Chang. ''Lust, Caution'' is set in Hong Kong in 1938 and in Shanghai in 1942, when the city was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army and ruled by the puppet government led by Wang Jingwei. Yu Kuang-chung
Yu Kwang-chung, also romanised as Yu Guangzhong (; 21 October 1928 – 14 December 2017) was a Taiwanese writer, poet, educator and critic. Life Yu was born in 1928 in Nanking to Yu Chaoying and Sun Xiujun, but fled with his family during the Japanese invasion. After returning to Nanjing many years later, he again was forced to flee due to the Communist victory in the Chinese Civil War. Yu and his family fled to Taiwan via British Hong Kong in 1950 with the Kuomintang-led Government. Yu entered the University of Nanking for English Major in 1947, and then transferred to Amoy University. He enrolled at National Taiwan University and was one of the first students to graduate with a degree in foreign languages. He held a master of fine arts degree from the University of Iowa. Lo Man-fei
Lo Man-fei (; 16 September 1955 – 24 March 2006) was a Taiwanese dancer and choreographer. She was a member of the Cloud Gate Dance Theater, founded by Lin Hwai-min, between 1979 and 1994. Lin subsequently founded her own dance troupe, Taipei Crossover Dance Company, and led Cloud Gate 2 from 1999 to her death. Early life and education Lo was born in Taipei, though she and her family moved to Yilan three months after her birth. She had three older sisters, one of which is the singer, Sophie Lo, and one older brother. Lo, who began taking private dance lessons at age 5, joined Taiwan's Neo-Classic Dance Company in 1974 while a student at National Taiwan University.
