Chen Hongjun
Ranks of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force#Current ranking system, Major Chen Hongjun ( zh, s=陈红军; 20 March 1987 – 16 June 2020) was a battalion commander in the People's Liberation Army. He was killed during the 2020–2022 China–India skirmishes and was posthumously decorated with the July 1 Medal for his efforts during the skirmish. Life Chen Hongjun was born into a farming family in Zhangjia Village, Liangdang County, Longnan. Along with his studies he helped his family, looking after the cattle and making bamboo baskets. He also loved noodles, and would help his neighbours work their farms. He attended the local school in Liangdang County after which he was admitted to Northwest Normal University in 2005, and graduated in psychology in 2009. Ranks Of The People's Liberation Army Ground Force
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has not always used ranks or insignia. In common with the practice of the Red Army at the time of its founding in 1927, neither were used until 1955 when a system of ranks was established. As a result of the Cultural Revolution, ranks were abolished in May 1965 (this led to a similar reform in Albania in the midst of the Albanian Cultural and Ideological Revolution). After the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979, reforms in the PLA began to be made to professionalize the armed forces once more. The 1984 Military Service Law provided for the resumption of rank, but disagreements on what ranks were to be used and who would receive them caused the revival of rank to be delayed until 1988.
