Chelmer is a south-western suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Chelmer had a population of 2,998 people. Geography Chelmer is by road from Brisbane GPO. Chelmer is zoned as a residential area, and consists of low-density housing. It has many fine Queenslanders, characterised by wooden verandahs, wide stairways and roofing of galvanized iron, but in recent years solid brick homes have been built also. Chelmer is located on a bend of the Brisbane River, between the Chelmer Reach () and the Indooroopilly Reach (), with all sides except south bounded by the median of the river. Chelmer Police College
Chelmer Police College is a heritage-listed former police barracks at 17 Laurel Avenue, Chelmer, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1900 to 1970. It is also known as 10 WRAAC Barracks, The Lady Wilson Red Cross Convalescent Home, and Waterton. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 1 October 2003. History The place which functioned as the Queensland Police College until 2012 at Chelmer, was established as a private residence, with additions in the form of staff quarters and a ward block constructed between 1941 and 1942 when the house was converted into a convalescent hospital for the Australian Red Cross Society. The substantial, middle-class residence is thought to have been erected for Thomas Beevor Steele, a Brisbane insurance agent. Steele acquired title to the Laurel Avenue site in March 1900. Chelmer Railway Station
Chelmer railway station is located on the Main line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Chelmer. History The original station opened north of its current location in 1876 as Oxley's Point. In 1888, the station was renamed Riverton. A siding was built at the current Chelmer station location in 1881, which was later converted into the current Chelmer railway station in 1889. Riverton was closed that same year. The line through Chelmer was duplicated in June 1886. The station was rebuilt in 1959 as part of the quadruplication of the line. Chelmer Reach
The Brisbane River is the longest river in South East Queensland, Australia, and flows through the city of Brisbane, before emptying into Moreton Bay on the Coral Sea. John Oxley, the first European to explore the river, named it after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane in 1823. The penal colony of Moreton Bay later adopted the same name, eventually becoming the present city of Brisbane. The river is a tidal estuary and the water is brackish from its mouth through the majority of the Brisbane metropolitan area westward to the Mount Crosby Weir. The river is wide and navigable throughout the Brisbane metropolitan area. The river travels from Mount Stanley. Chelmer Village
Chelmer Village is a housing, retail and industrial development in the east of Chelmsford, Essex. The development was started by Countryside Residential PLC in 1978, using a holistic approach to create a self-contained community on previously greenfield land, of the manors of Springfield Barnes and Cuton Hall. It comprises a variety of modern suburban dwellings, the Chelmer Village Retail Park and Dukes Park Industrial Estate. Together with "Beaulieu Park" and parts of old Springfield the development forms the "Chelmer Village & Beaulieu Park" ward of the Springfield Parish and Chelmsford City Council. History Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements have been found in and around Chelmer Village. Early Saxon pottery has been found by Cuton Way, Chelmer Village Way. There is evidence of an early structure at Springfield Lyon's that dates back to 3,000 BC, with a field monument called a Causewayed Enclosure.
