Chelles, Seine-et-Marne
Chelles () is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region from the center of Paris. History Paleolithic artifacts were discovered by chance at Chelles by the pioneering nineteenth-century anthropologist Louis Laurent Gabriel de Mortillet (1821–1898); he named the corresponding cultural stage of the Paleolithic after the commune: « Chellean» or «Chellian», nowadays known as «Oldowan». At the Merovingian villa of ''Calae'' the abbey of Notre-Dame-des-Chelles was founded by Balthild, a seventh-century queen of the Franks. It was largely demolished at the time of the French Revolution. Geography There are two main streets in Chelles, Avenue Foch and Avenue de la Résistance. Chelles Abbey
Chelles Abbey (french: Abbaye Notre-Dame-des-Chelles) was a Frankish monastery founded around 657/660 during the early medieval period. It was intended initially as a monastery for women; then its reputation for great learning grew, and with the afflux of men wishing to follow the monastic life, a parallel male community was established, creating a double monastery. Chelles Battle Pro
Chelles Battle Pro was created in 2001 and it is held every year in Chelles, France. There are two competitions. One is a kids competition for solo b-boys and b-girls who are 12 years old or younger. The other competition is a knock-out tournament for eight b-boy crews. Some crews have to qualify at their country's local tournament; others are invited straight to the finale. In 2014, Chelles Battle Pro is partnering up with Undisputed to create The Undisputed World BBoy Series, the world's first B-Boying series connecting different events around the globe, one of which is Battle Pro. The winner of Battle Pro 1 vs 1 joins the other champions from other international events in the series to meet in the Undisputed Masters event and battle to establish who is the supreme champion, who is “Undisputed”. Jean De Chelles
Jean (or Jehan) de Chelles (working 1258–1265) was a master mason and sculptor who was one of the architects at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. On the exterior wall of the south transept a stone plaque is signed ''Johanne Magistro'' and dated February 1257, documenting the initiation of alterations to the transept and its portal. On his death in 1265, he was succeeded by Master Pierre de Montreuil. Jean de Chelles is credited with the south end of the transept of Nôtre Dame de Paris, the portal of the cloister and its rose window, and the portail Saint Etienne. He is supposed to have worked with Pierre de Montreuil on the Cathedral of Saint Julien, Le Mans. A Jean de Chelles was working on the Palais du Louvre in 1265, under the direction of Raymond du Temple. He is sometimes thought to have worked on the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, but the art historian, Robert Branner, believes this to have actually been created by Thomas Cormont, who had previously worked at Amiens.
