Cheilodactylus Variegatus
''Chirodactylus variegatus'', the Peruvian morwong or bilagai, is a species of marine ray-finned fish traditionally regarded as belonging to the family Cheilodactylidae, the members of which are commonly known as morwongs. It is found in the southeastern Pacific Ocean off the western coast of South America. Taxonomy ''Chirodactylus variegatus'' was first formally described in 1833 as ''Cheilodactylus variegatus'' by the French zoologist Achille Valenciennes with the type locality given as Valparaíso in Chile. When the American ichthyologist Theodore Nicholas Gill initially described the genus ''Chirodactylus'' in 1962 he included ''Cheilodactylus antonii'' as its type species, this was later shown to be a synonym for ''C. variegatus''. Genetic and morphological analyses strongly support the validity of ''Chirodactylus'' as a genus and that the genus should be placed in the family Latridae. Achille Valenciennes
Achille Valenciennes (9 August 1794 – 13 April 1865) was a French zoologist. Valenciennes was born in Paris, and studied under Georges Cuvier. His study of parasitic worms in humans made an important contribution to the study of parasitology. He also carried out diverse systematic classifications, linking fossil and current species. He worked with Cuvier on the 22-volume "'' Histoire Naturelle des Poissons''" (Natural History of Fish) (1828–1848), carrying on alone after Cuvier died in 1832. In 1832, he succeeded Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville (1777–1850) as chair of ''Histoire naturelle des mollusques, des vers et des zoophytes'' at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. ''Fishes of the World'' by the American ichthyologist Joseph S. Nelson (1937–2011) is a standard reference for fish systematics. Now in its fifth edition (2016), the work is a comprehensive overview of the diversity and classification of the 30,000-plus fish species known to science. The book begins with a general overview of ichthyology, although it is not self-contained. After a short section on Chordata and non-fish taxa, the work lists all known fish families in a systematic fashion. Each family (biology), family gets at least one paragraph, and usually a body outline drawing; large families have subfamilies and tribes described as well. Notable genera and species are mentioned, while the book generally does not deal with the species-level diversity. ''Aplodactylus punctatus'', the Zamba marblefish, is a species of marine ray finned fish, one of the marblefishes belonging to the family Aplodactylidae. It is found in the eastern Pacific Ocean of the west coast of South America. Taxonomy ''Aplodactylus punctatus'' was first formally described in 1832 by the French zoologist Achille Valenciennes with the type locality given as Valparaiso in Chile. ''Tetrapygus'' is a genus of sea urchins in the family Arbaciidae. It is a monotypic genus and the only species is ''Tetrapygus niger'' which was first described by the Chilean naturalist Juan Ignacio Molina in 1782. It is found in the southeastern Pacific Ocean on the coasts of South America. Description The oral (under) surface of the test is flattened while the aboral (upper) surface is shallowly domed. There is a small apical disc and the ambulacral areas are straight. There are up to five large primary tubercles in rows in the inter-ambulacral areas, interspersed with smaller secondary tubercles. Macrocystis Integrifolia
Macrocystis integrifolia was considered a distinct species of giant kelp in the genus ''Macrocystis ,'' based on blade and holdfast morphology. As of 2009, phycologists have collapsed ''Macrocystis integrifolia'' and the various other giant kelps into the single species, ''Macrocystis pyrifera.'' Description Deep brown color on flattened rhizomes which are profusely dichotomously branched. Each is attached by branched root-like structures coming out of the sides of the rhizomes. Slender main stipes (about wide to long) come from the rhizome which is up to at the widest. Periodically wide and long flattened leaf-like branches derive from the stipe. They have furrowed surfaces and taper gradually, but then have an oval or rounded float where attached to the stipe.
