Fuad Chehab
Fouad Abdullah Chehab ( ar, فُؤادْ عبد الله شِهاب; 19 March 1902 – 25 April 1973) was a Lebanese general and statesman who served as President of Lebanon from 1958 to 1964. He is considered to be the founder of the Lebanese Army after Lebanon gained independence from France, and became its first commander in 1946. Born in Ghazir to a family that traced its origins to nobility, Chehab joined the French Army in 1919. He was appointed Prime Minister of Lebanon by the outgoing president Bechara El Khoury, who resigned due to widespread demonstrations against his administration, and tasked Chehab with the role of organizing the next presidential election, in which Camille Chamoun was elected. During the 1958 Lebanon crisis between Chamoun and Muslim leaders, he prevented the army from siding with the government or the opposition, and refused any request to do so. Khaled Chehab
Emir Khaled Chehab (September 11, 1886 – November 12, 1978) ( ar, الأمير خالد شهاب) was a Lebanese politician and the 8th Prime Minister of Lebanon, serving for two short terms. The first was between 21 March 1938 until 1 November 1938 during the rule of President Émile Eddé during the French Mandate. He was also the first Prime Minister during the rule of President Camille Chamoun for the period of September 1952 to April 1953, during which time the electoral law to guarantee women's suffrage in Lebanon was passed. He was also a Member of the Lebanese Parliament for six terms (ranging from 1922 to 1939) during the Mandate mostly representing the South. He served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon from October 1935 to June 1937. In 1960 he was elected MP for Marjayoun-Hasbaya Electoral district for a 4-year term during the administration of President Fuad Chehab. Zaki Chehab (born 1956) is an Arab journalist. Founder and Editor-in-Chief of ArabsToday.net, an Arabic-language news website. Until October 2009, Chehab was London Bureau Chief of Al Hayat – LBC TV. He has covered the Middle East for a variety of newsmedia including ''The Guardian'', CNN, and the BBC. Chehab has covered numerous Middle Eastern conflicts, including the Lebanese Civil War, the 1982 Lebanon War, the First Intifada, and the wars in Yemen, the Gulf and Afghanistan. Early life Chehab was born in Tyre, South Lebanon on 29 December 1956. He grew up in the Palestinian refugee camp Burj el-Shemali. He moved to London in the 1980s.
