Cheated Hearts (film)
''Cheated Hearts'' is a 1921 American silent drama film directed by Hobart Henley and featuring Herbert Rawlinson, Warner Baxter, Marjorie Daw and Boris Karloff. The screenplay was written by Wallace Clifton, based on the novel ''Barry Gordon'' by William Farquar Payson. The film's tagline was "All the Exotic Glamour of the East Woven in a Livid Picture of Love" (Print Ad in the Seattle Star, ((Seattle, Wash.)) 24 December 1921). It was shot in Universal City, and is today considered a lost film. Plot Barry Gordon (Herbert Rawlinson) and his brother Tom (Warner Baxter), the sons of an old Virginia colonel, are both in love with Muriel Bekkman (Marjorie Daw). Barry is a wastrel, however, and because he believes Muriel loves Tom the best, he takes to drinking heavily even though his father died of alcoholism. Hobart Henley
Hobart Henley (born Hess Manassah Henle; November 23, 1887 – May 22, 1964) was an American silent film actor, Film director, director, screenwriter and producer. He was involved in over 60 films either as an actor or director or both in his twenty-year career, between 1914 and 1934 when he retired from filmmaking. Early life Henley was born Hess Manassah Henle in Louisville, Kentucky, to Samuel Henle, a German immigrant and retailer, and his wife Clementine. His father moved the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Henley later attended and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Career Henley began his career as a stage actor, then moved to acting in silent films. He began dual duties of directing and acting in such films as ''The Gay Old Dog'' for Pathé in 1919. Anna Lehr (November 17, 1890 – January 22, 1974) was an American silent film and stage actress.''At The Majestic'', ''Sheboygan Press'', May 24, 1916, p. 2 Biography Born in New York City to Austrian immigrant parents, Frank Lehr and Emilie Freisinger, Anna Lehr filmed ''Civilization's Child'' (1916) for Thomas Ince, a Triangle-Kay Bee feature. The screenplay was written by C. Gardner Sullivan. There is a scene in which Russian cavalry charge over her as she lies prostrate on the ground. Lehr's fear was abated somewhat by her belief that horses will not step on people except by accident. She played "Doris Ames" in the silent film ''Grafters'' (1917), which was directed by Allan Dwan. In 1919 Lehr was chosen by David Powell to play in ''Teeth of the Tiger''. She was forced to withdraw due to ptomaine poisoning. The movie was being filmed by Famous Players-Lasky in New York City.
