Che Chew Chan
Che Chew Chan (born 1 October 1982 in Pontian, Johor) is a Malaysian taekwondo practitioner. She is a three-time defending champion for the middleweight category and won a total of four gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games, a silver medalist at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand, and a silver medalist at the 2008 Asian Taekwondo Championships in Luoyang, China. Che qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after winning a gold medal for the women's 72 kg class at the Asian Taekwondo Qualifying Tournament for Beijing Olympic Games in Vietnam. She competed for the women's heavyweight category (+67 kg), where she first defeated Uzbekistan's Evgeniya Karimova in the preliminary match, with a decisive score of 5–4. Johor Bahru (), colloquially referred to as JB, is the capital city of the state of Johor, Malaysia. The 2007 Southeast Asian Games ( th, กีฬาแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ 2007, Kila haeng echiye tawan oak chiyeng tai 2007), officially known as the 24th Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Thailand. This was the sixth time Thailand hosted the Southeast Asian Games and its first time since 1995. Previously, Thailand also hosted the 1959 inaugural games, 1967 games, 1975 games and the 1985 games. María del Rosario Espinoza Espinoza (born November 27, 1987) is a Mexican taekwondo practitioner. Espinoza is one of the two women from Mexico who have won an Olympic gold medal, the other being Soraya Jiménez. Early life Espinoza was born on 27 November 1987 in La Brecha, Sinaloa. Her father is a fisherman and mother a homemaker. She began practicing taekwondo at age five. Career Espinoza won her first international competition in taekwondo at the 2003 Pan American Youth Championship in Rio de Janeiro. Later she participated in Open tournaments in Canada, France, and Germany. Nina Solheim
Nina Solheim (born 4 August 1979) is a Norwegian taekwondo practitioner. She won a silver medal in the women's heavyweight (+67 kg) division at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, beaten by Mexican María del Rosario Espinoza in the final. She also qualified and competed in the women's middleweight (67 kg) division at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She lost in the quarterfinals against Luo Wei of China after injuring her knee. In addition to a bronze medal from the 2001 World Taekwondo Championships in Jeju, South Korea, Solheim won the gold medal in middleweight (72 kg) at the 2006 World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. The women's +67 kg competition in taekwondo at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place on 23 August at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition.
