Chavdar, Sofia Province
Chavdar ( bg, Чавдар, ) is a village situated in a mountain region, in the eastern part of Sofia Province, Bulgaria. It is the administrative center of Chavdar Municipality. The municipality is located in the sub-Balkan Zlatitsa-Pirdop Basin. It consists of only one village, namely the village of Chavdar. The municipality is one of the smallest in Bulgaria, situated at the southern outskirts of the Balkan Mountains, and on the northern foothills of Sredna Gora mountain. It is located about 72 km (45 miles) east of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. Close by are the cities of Zlatitsa and Pirdop. Chavdar Peninsula
Chavdar Peninsula ( bg, полуостров Чавдар, poluostrov Chavdar, ) is a 10-km wide peninsula projecting 13 km in northwest direction from Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula in Antarctica. It is bounded by Curtiss Bay to the northeast, Hughes Bay to the southwest and Gerlache Strait to the northwest. Its west extremity Cape Sterneck separates Danco Coast to the southwest and Davis Coast to the northeast. The interior of the peninsula is partly occupied by the westerly portion of Kaliva Range. Chavdar Voyvoda
Chavdar ( bg, Чавдар) was a 16th-century semi-legendary Bulgarian hajduk voivode, a leader of a band of outlaws and a protector of the people against Ottoman injustice. Hajduks would usually take to the woods and wage guerrilla warfare on the ruling Turks. Chavdar was born in south Macedonia and headed a band of 300 people. He was initially active in the Štip and Kozjak regions, but subsequently moved to the region of Sofia. According to the legend, he was captured by the pasha of Sofia by trickery, but rescued by his nephew and standard-bearer Lalush Voyvoda who devastated the pasha's estates. It is thought that Chavdar may have been one of the hajduks who assaulted Sofia in February 1595. Legacy One of the greatest hajduk figures in Bulgarian folklore and epic tales, Chavdar was immortalised by national poet Hristo Botev. Chavdar Yankov ( bg, Чавдар Янков; born 29 March 1984) is a Bulgarian retired footballer. He played as a midfielder. Club career Yankov began his football career as a youth at Slavia Sofia. He made his debut in professional football on 7 September 2001, in a 0–1 loss against Lokomotiv Sofia. In the 2001–02 season, Yankov played in seven matches for Slavia. He started to make his name two years later when he scored six goals in 30 league games and was called to the Bulgarian national team by then coach Hristo Stoichkov. In summer 2005, Yankov moved to German Bundesliga side Hannover 96, initially on a loan, but made permanent in summer 2007 for a fee of around €1.30 million. Chavdar (company)
Chavdar ( bg, Чавдар) was a Bulgarian bus builder located in the town of Botevgrad, Sofia Province. Founded by Racho Dzhambov in 1924, the company that would later become "Chavdar" produced around 200 buses between 1927 and 1947 on chassis from Ford Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz and Dodge. In 1948 the company was nationalised and acquired the name "Chavdar" in honour of the revolutionary Chavdar Voyvoda. It produced buses on chassis of Skoda 706 RTO but later shifted to license production of Setra and Steyr buses. It also developed several models on its own, which had good commercial success. The company closed in 1999. History In 1924 Racho Valkov Dzhambov (1894-1983) opened an iron workshop in Botevgrad, Bulgaria.
