The Chautauqua Hurricane are a semiprofessional basketball team in Brocton, New York, and members of Premier Basketball League (PBL). History The Chautauqua Hurricane were founded in 2015 as a member of the semiprofessional American Basketball Association (ABA). The Hurricane then played the 2018 and 2019 seasons in the semiprofessional North American Basketball League (NABL) as part of a new Northeast Division. The Hurricane announced in December 2019 that the team would return in a re-launched Premier Basketball League (PBL) for the 2020 season. The Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the PBL, is an American professional men's basketball minor league that began play in January 2008. The league folded after the 2017 season. It was announced that the league would be revived under new management for the 2020 season. The league announced due coronavirus outbreak the season would be put on hold. Brocton, New York
Brocton is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The name was derived by combining the names "Brockway" and "Minton", two prominent local families. The population was 1,335 at the 2020 census. Brocton is within the town of Portland. The Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility, a state prison, is located just north of the village limits. History The community was first settled in 1805 by Captain James Dunn. The village of Brocton was incorporated in 1894. Brocton used to be named "Salems Corners (Cross Roads)" after Salem, Massachusetts, but was later renamed "Brocton". In 1913, to commemorate the town of Portland's Centennial, a green double-arch was erected over the town's main intersection. It is believed to be the only double-arch east of the Mississippi River. American Basketball Association (2000–present)
The American Basketball Association (ABA) is an American semi-professional men's basketball minor league that was founded in 1999. The ABA has teams based in the United States and previously had international teams based in Canada and Mexico. In the past, there were traveling teams from countries such as Australia and Japan who played in the ABA. The North American Basketball League (NABL) is an American minor professional basketball league organization founded in 2016. History Formed in 2016, the NABL began with 10 teams based in the South and Southwest regions of the United States. The first regular season games were played on April 30, 2016. Atlanta Show defeated Music City Kings in the first-ever league game 113-78. Atlanta Show would go undefeated on their way to capture the first league championship in August by defeating the Dallas Hoyas 145-110 in the championship game. Season two saw expansion to a national level with 19 teams competing. Four teams from the Northwest were added including the Vancouver-based SB Battle.
