Chattooga County Library System
The Chattooga County Library System (CCLS) was a public library system consisting of two libraries in Chattooga County, Georgia, United States, in the northwest region of the state. On 1 November 2020, the library system merged with the Sara Hightower Regional Library System. The library headquarters and main branch is located in Summerville with a second, smaller branch in Trion. CCLS is a part of PINES, a public library network of 281 libraries in 140 counties throughout Georgia. Any resident of Georgia may receive a PINES library card which allows them access to any of the 8 million books in its collection across the state. The library is also member of GALILEO, Georgia's ‘virtual library’ which facilitates online access to over 100 databases (including magazine articles and online books) for researchers and students on a wide variety of topics. Chattooga County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,965. According to the World Population Review, as of 2021, it is estimated at 24,803. The county seat is Summerville. The county was created on December 28, 1838. Chattooga County comprises the Summerville, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Rome-Summerville Combined Statistical Area. Northwest Georgia is a region of the state of Georgia in the United States. It includes 12 counties (listed in the section below), which at the 2010 census had a combined population of 753,032. Sara Hightower Regional Library System
The Sara Hightower Regional Library System (SHRLS) is a system of 6 public libraries in the Northwest Georgia region serving Chattooga County, Polk County and Floyd County. The headquarters of the library system is located in Rome, Georgia, at the Rome-Floyd County Library. Patrons of the library receive a PINES library card. This card may be used at any of the 275 libraries affiliated with the program across Georgia, as well as the 6 branches in the Sara Hightower Regional Library System, and is open to all Georgia residents. The SHRLS is also affiliated with the GLASS (Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services) program which offers library services for the blind and physically handicapped. Summerville is a city and the county seat of Chattooga County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,534 at the 2010 census. History Summerville was founded in 1838 as the seat of the newly formed Chattooga County. It was incorporated as a town in 1839 and as a city in 1909. Trion, Georgia
Trion is a town in Chattooga County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,960 at the 2020 census, down from 1,827 at the 2010 census. Trion is the second-largest incorporated community in Chattooga County, which has a population of approximately 26,000. Trion is known as the denim capital of the world because of the Mount Vernon (formerly Riegel) manufacturing plant, which employs about 4,000 people. History Trion had its start in the 1840s when the Trion Mills cotton mill was established there. A post office called Trion Factory opened in 1847, and in 1904 the name was changed to Trion. Public Information Network For Electronic Services
The Public Information Network for Electronic Services (or PINES) is the nearly statewide library consortium and its online library catalog of the Georgia Public Library Service. By June 2017, the catalog consisted of books from 284 library facilities in 143 counties across the U.S. state of Georgia with a collection size of 10.6 million items, all of which are searchable by anyone with a PINES library card which can be obtained free of charge from any PINES-participating library. The PINES system effectively turns most of the state of Georgia into one huge library. PINES cardholders are able to request an interlibrary loan from any affiliated library, and the single statewide library card grants access to the hundreds of branches associated with the service.
