Chattacon is an annual science fiction convention held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The convention is organized by the nonprofit Chattanooga Speculative Fiction Fans, Inc. First held in 1976, the convention drew more than 1,200 attendees to the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel in 2014. Chattacon was founded by Chattanooga native Irv Koch; the first Chattacon was held in January 1976. Formatted as a "relaxacon", it drew 81 guests, and lost money. By Chattacon III in 1978, it was a more traditional science fiction convention, with A. E. van Vogt as Guest of Honor, and had returned the costs of its original organization to Koch, with enough left over to serve as seed money for Chattacon IV. Timothy Thomas Powers (born February 29, 1952) is an American science fiction and fantasy fiction, fantasy author. Mike Resnick
Michael Diamond Resnick (; March 5, 1942 – January 9, 2020) was an American science fiction writer and editor. He won five Hugo awards and a Nebula award, and was the guest of honor at Chicon 7. He was the executive editor of the defunct magazine ''Jim Baen's Universe,'' and the creator and editor of ''Galaxy's Edge'' magazine. Biography Resnick was born in Chicago on March 5, 1942. He was a 1959 graduate of Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois. He sold his first piece of writing in 1957, while still in high school. He attended the University of Chicago from 1959 to 1961 and met his future wife, Carol L. Cain, there. The couple began dating in mid-December 1960 and were engaged by the end of the month. Wendy K. Webb is an American fiction author. Her books have received several awards, including the Minnesota Book Award for fiction in 2011 and 2017. Early life and education Webb was born and raised in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. When Webb was in grade school, the school librarian encouraged her to read '' A Wrinkle in Time'' by Madeleine L'Engle. Scott Grimando is an American illustrator. In his teenage years he studied classical painting under Harold Stevenson, one of the few protégées of Norman Rockwell. Later studying under the aviation artist Attila Hejja, Grimando went on to work with most of the major Science Fiction and Fantasy publishers.
